I read an item on Major Nelson's site the other day about a utility called Orb. It's a 'MyCasting' program that can share media on your pc to any internet connected device, be it another PC, PDA, mobile phone or now Xbox 360.

As I have been having problems with Windows Media Connect seeing my 360 I decided to give it a go. I downloaded and installed the free 2.0 software on my PC, completed the most basic of registration processes and a minute later I was able to stream again to my 360 :)

I then realised what the programs real purpose is, to allow you to pick up your own personal media where ever you are. So I went to the Orb MyCasting log in page and logged in.

When you are logged in you are presented with your own MyCasting webspace, which looks like it can be customised in many ways. From this page you can browse your shared media, be it Music, Photo's, Video's all from your home PC which is acting as the server.

On launching one of these media sets, you are presented with an iTunes style browser containing all your shared media. Here is a screenshot of my Music:

I think this is all pretty cool stuff. It means I can sit at work and listen to any of my tunes I have on my home pc, as well as being able to view photo's and video's.

You can even set it up to stream TV that is coming in via a TV card out onto the Internet - I know this is already possible, through the likes of Sony's Internet TV broadcasting device, but not for free?!

So thought some of you may be interested in this. I did a quick search and couldn't see anything major posted about Orb, just a reference to some people using it to stream to the 360 instead of using Tversity.

Cheers :)
