Hi folks,

I have a 360 and PS3 rigged up to my main TV. I can easily stream some video files to the consoles, mostly .avi I believe.

If I wanted to stream .mkv files or something else, complete with things like subtitles, what is the best way to go about it? :)

PS3 Media Server is great.

Other option is to use MKV2VOB to turn your .mkv into .mp4 so that they can run on the PS3 without needing to be transcoded on the fly. Usually takes about 5 mins for a 10gb mkv as all it is doing is changing the video container :)

What i do is convert my MKV into MP4 using MKV2VOB, run PS3 media server, then on the PS3 select the video, hit triangle and choose copy. This copies the video onto the PS3 hard drive, but i only do that because my 50" plasma is downstairs and am unable to stream 1080p over wireless :(
