Streaming device similar to WDTV?

Why not look at a raspberry pi with xbmc installed? All apps are available and streams fine for me

Last time I checked Demand5 and 4oD don't work on XBMC due to them being behind DRM protection of sorts now.

Jez, some of the BD players have all those channels plus the ability to stream from network shares - plus have the added bonus of disc playback. Might be worth looking at too. I think Samsung, Sony and LG have the best content available.

I am looking at the BD players now, the downside of course is that they cost a lot more (to the point where you have to wonder whether it would be better to simply put another sky box in there on a multiroom along with a WDTV for streaming)

Ive no use for a disc player really, as I don't keep discs in the house (I use 100% networked material), but I guess that's a bonus feature which is never a bad thing to have :)

I was looking at them a while back and I think the Samsung F5500 offered the best selection and was around £80. I *think* Samsung are the only ones to offer ITV,C4,BBC and 5.

I eventually stumped for a NowTV box as I really only needed it for catchup as I have a separate XBMC machine.

Jez have you considered a slingbox to share your TV and then the slingbox app on the WDTV? That would give you the channels you're missing :)

That would mean babies would be taking over my sky box wouldn't it? :D

I'm not sure, I thought it just added the ability to stream the channels to the device it's connected to, not necessarily take the content from one to another and overide it.

I could be wrong though :p

Oh and congrats on being a Dad :D

I believe there is a Youtube app available again for the Roku3 only from today. The lower models are to follow.

I have to ask, why would anybody want youtube on a device like this? I cant remember the last time I used youtube even on a pc, let alone wanted it on my TV :p

I think the slingbox is for streaming an input which it takes from your existing gear.

Oooooh I see.

One option is just to splice the existing antenna and run a cable into that room for the back of the TV that'll give you freeview.

That's what I'm looking to do and couple that with a Roku 3 to stream all my stuff to it.

Horses for courses :p

Personally, I like watching a few web-series like the /DRIVE channel :)

A lot of contents on YouTube now are HD, I like to watch music videos in HD as the quality is much nicer and trailers on the TV too but that is normalyl through the Trailer app in ATV.

On YouTube, I watch Digital Rev mostly about once a week. Anything that requires searching I use my computer since I hate using a remote to type in long texts.

Got the Now TV box, 10 mins later, up and running - streaming movies/tv etc from my server. Installed MTV channel, Youtube channel, iplayer etc etc - all working no bother. For £8 this is a bargain!

It's streaming 1080p mkv's without any stuttering from my server as well - via wireless. Takes about 45 seconds to start by buffering but for £8 - it's a steal!
