Does it have to be optical out? Does your AV amp have a coaxial digital input? The Sony bluray player bdp-s1500 has a coaxial output and the Netflix app built in.

Will your TV not output 5.1 audio via its own optical out?

TVs wall mounted so I can't access native optical out / HDMI. It's 60" and cost me a lot of money, back in the day that 1080p was new released, too much of a weakling to tinker with it so I'm not going to move it.

That's why my next best thing is to get an optical out on the streaming device, like the xbox 360 could. Apple TV 3rd Gen has the Opt Out, is this recommended? About £45-50 and £60 new.

Thanks.

Sorry, I have a PC for games. I don't want to pay over £90 for a streaming device that won't have a "better image" than one I coudl get for less, whats the difference between this and an Apple TV 3rd Gen/ Fire TV?

Im not sure what the difference is to be honest Obvious one is Android one is apple. I know its a great box with KODI and google play store. But your original post was you could not find a box for optical out so if you have found a box cheaper for your needs with optical out then its a closed thread LOL

True but the thread is asking if others know of any - I've never had an Apple TV 3rd Gen box so don't know if its any good, I think the Roki 4 also has it but I'm leaning more towards Apple. If nobody has anything more to say I guess it is a closed thread and Apple it is lol

If you cant find an old device with optical out , try one of these
Portta 4x1 HDMI Switcher with Toslink and Digital Coaxial Port 3D Splitter with Remote and AC Adapter/ 3D 1080P

Hey man,

Excellent suggestion!! This would give me optical on my sky setup and everything else!!! Brilliant, exactly what I needed ;)

So which is better Apple TV 3rd Gen (£30 from CeX/ £60 new) or Amazon Fire TV (£65). I would also want to mirror my iDevices to the TV as well, a feature the Apple TV does very easily.
