Basically I have stacks and stacks of DVDs and tv episodes, which I like to watch from time to time.

I am toying with setting up a server with a few hard drives inside it to store lots of movies/episodes on, I have a plasma telly in the living room, and a regular PC in my bedroom hooked up to an LCD TV.

I know I can just copy the dvds/episodes to divx and store them on a server, but will there be a way of showing the episodes on the plasma tv in the living room without having to buy another PC?

Interesting, what should I install on my server, should windows XP do the trick, or would a linux install or similar be better?

You can use a program called twonkyvision, or MyiHome works well. You can also set up SMB network sharing, or NFS. Hanewin NFS Server is good, plenty of choices.. Windows XP or Windows Server will be fine..

Me, I use Twonky, as its very easy to set up, HTTP configuration pages, point the media search at your drives, thats it. It lists all your media on your TV using your media player.

Popcorn players also allow for use of USB HDD, so if you have a USB HDD, just plug it straight in, stream direct from USB to plasma screen, nothing could be simpler..

Hey, if I could do this in less then 30 minutes of opening my popcorn media player box, then anyone can... lol
