I've been reading around on this subject and can't really get a definitive answer.

Apparently Bluetooth doesn't have enough bandwidth to stream audio in perfect quality, however I've heard some people state it is negligible yet others say the sound quality has deteriorated noticeably

My reason for asking is my need to purchase an FM Transmitter for the car and I don't really want wires all over the place. I was looking at the Jabra Cruiser.

Can people give me their opinions on the subject so I can gauge an overall average to determine if it's worth spending £50 or not.

Cheers :)

Bluetooth streaming sounds great direct to head unit or parrot car kit, streaming to jabra then fm transmitter to head unit will be poor at best, subject to the usual interference as you drive about.

i was really quite surprised how good it was streaming from my blackberry to my kenwood HU. It's not up to lossless standards, or even well encoded mp3's, but its totally listen-able and far better than FM.

im getting the sony mw600 which is a bluetooth headset receiver which I can plug my expensive earphones into..ill tell you if its poor quality then! Im going the sony internal dac will produce better sound than the desire

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

The FM transmitter is only for temporary use but it is a requirement none the less, my main question stems from the research I've done into the capabilities of Bluetooth for use with high bit rate audio streaming.

I was wondering what people's opinions are on the loss in quality (if noticeable) when listening to average mp3s via Bluetooth. Is it minimal, tolerable, or should just be avoided?

Used a Plantronics headset before, need to get it charged up and use it again tbh... Didn't notice any drop in sound quality versus direct connection.

Awesome! That's what I wanted to hear.

TBH most of the complaints I've read about the drop in audio quality are from people who say they are "really into their music" (which I am too) but from the specifications Bluetooth shouldn't hinder it at all, yet people still say the audio is "cropped".

I'm just hoping that this cropping only occurs with high quality audio samples, and that the average 192kbps mp3 should play as normal, which would be perfectly acceptable in my car for now.

Oh wait, I forgot the most relevant part, one of my friends has a bluetooth setup in his car and plays music through it all the time, sounds perfectly fine to me too.

Even better :D

I went ahead and ordered one, the FM transmitter I'm using at the moment gives a pretty decent signal and audio quality is great, this Jabra unit is supposed to give out a superbly strong signal so hopefully there should be negligible loss from this coupled with the Bluetooth transmission. Fingers crossed.
