Hello chaps

Looking for some help on this one, got a PS3 a few weeks ago and have no problem streamng the movies from my laptop which they are stored on an external drive but when i try to do it with music the following error shows up on screen.

Media server error, a DLNA protcol 4405 has occured.

This comes up even before it lists the albums i have on the hard drive, made sure all the settings were fine through my sharing optins and that the correct folders were added for sharing.

Any pointers would be appreciated

not sure, but i've always used a program called twonkymedia and never had any problems streaming pictures/music/movies on my ps3

Yeah i've heard of folk using TVersity and other software but i was wondering why i cant do it through WMP11

TBH I posted about this problem somewhere before, but for a quick recap.

I run a server, with all my media on it, video/photos/music.
All the PCs can see it, and the PS3, via WMP11.

Now, after the initial week of setting it up, I noticed I was getting DNLA errors, only for my music.

After much headscratching and googling, it seemed that if you have folders with masses of files inside, it causes the error. Maybe the PS3 times out before WMP11 has passed on the list, maybe not.

What I had was a folder called "media" and all my media inside of that.

I had another folder in there called music, and many many music tracks in more subfolders in that.

This gave DNLA errors.

As a test, I individually shared some of the subfolders, rather than one folder with all the subfolders in if you see what I mean?

ie x:\media\music\folder1, folder 2, folder 3 etc

Sharing the above caused problems when you have over 12,000 mp3s for example.

however, going to WMP11 setup and individually sharing folder1, folder2, folder 3 etc, works fine.

Hopefully it'll get fixed some time... but for now, the above works.
Takes a while to set up, but basically, if you have a large music collection, don't give WMP11 a folder with masses of folders and files in it, spilit them up a bit, and it should work fine.

Hope this helps, probably badly worded, but I'm in a rush, sorry.
Vin.

thanks for the replies lads

Looks like i've got it sorted, i thought it was somethign to do with the folder size at first but my movie folder is bigger than my music folder and the movies stream fine, the actual music folder is 63gb.

I read this solution on another forum.

Try reseting everything by cycling everything.

Do so by going into your PS3/Settings/Network setting/Media Server Connection and disable it. Shut down your PS3.

Stop sharing in Media Server within WMP11, then shut down your PC.

Shut off your router, wait at least 10 seconds
Then turn your PS3 on first and Enable Media Server Connection. Then turn on your router and then the PC. Turn on Sharing on the Media Server in WMP11.

Once you have confirmed that it is working, doing the following should ensure that I will not happen again(not guaranteed though).

Goto the "Control Panel", click on "Administrative tools" and then "Services".
Turn the "Ipsec" setting to "manual" rather than "automatic".

This has worked a treat for me.

Good tips there.
I did the same, with the exception of the Ipsec part.
It worked, for a couple of days/week, and then I got the DNLA errors again.
In fact, I did it several times, cleared the WMP11 cache, everything was available again... but each time, after a certain amount of time, it would fail again. Sharing smaller, individual folders, worked, and continued to work.
I don't think there is any hard limit as to when problems can occur, but I think they're sort of 12,000+.

Anyway, maybe the Ipsec part will help, and I hope you run into no more problems. If you do, remember to try smaller folders anyway. At least it continues to work then.

Vin.
