Hi all,

Can anyone help as I'm drawing a blank here despite hours of trying. I am trying to get remote streaming of my music and films working over VPN to my S3. I have a readynas running a dnla server on my home network. I have an Asus 56u with the latest firmware running a PPTP VPN. The VPN on the S3 is working as I can remotely access the files on on the readynas using ES file explorer on the phone but I cannot for the life of me get any of about 10 or more upnp / dnla apps to find the server. I have tried connecting via my phones data connection and a friends Wifi but still no luck. I am just wondering if anyone has this working and what setting / apps etc they are using. I don't want to give up but I'm nearly at that point.

A little more investigation shows this seems to be due to the VPN not transmitting Multicast packets used by Upnp. I 'll have to find another way, google music seems like the most viable alternative right now but won't give me access to videos etc.

Haha, by the overwhelming number of responses I got to this thread I'm assuming no one else is interested in this. However, just for the sake of completeness and in case it helps someone in the future I have it working now and here's what I did.
Purchased an app called plugplayer from play store. In there is the ability to manually add a upnp server address. For the Readynas duo (v1) the dnla server is basically minidnla which has an announce address of http://<device IP address>:8200/rootDesc.xml. So I simply manually added that address in Plugplayer and now I can see my home LAN DNLA server. So, whilst connected to my VPN whereever I am I can now access all my DNLA content on my Galaxy S3.
