hi guys had my ipad for a while now and have near enough used all the 16gb with music, movies etc. i was wondering is there a way i can stream movies to my ipad instead of converting them everytime and then sending them over via itunes? im all new to apple so have no idea

cheers :)

Maybe check software out like Air Video and VLC, however these need server side software to stream and do live conversion to iPad format too.

I have only just this minute set Air Video up on my server in order to feed iPad with media - oh my goodness me, well impressed, and here was I intending to re-encode everything for the iPad. Works sublimely (so far)!!!

Air Video is fantastic, also if you want to go away and take videos with you, buzz player has played just about every file format I've thrown at it without any need of conversion.

No, its a few quid but nothing worth worrying about, its a good app. It can also browse ftp and samba (windows file shares) which is useful.

Its a different app for a different purpose not a direct comparison. Its like comparing a Sonos to an iPod so I'm not sure why your saying air video is just as good before you've tried Buzz player? Buzz player is what you would use to copy a load of films straight on to the iPad to take on holiday when you cant stream from air video. Air video can copy films locally but it has to transcode them which is time consuming. I use Air video constantly when I'm at home , I'm a big fan, but if I'm on a train etc I would be watching media on Buzz.

Air video is one of the good way, and you also can stream videos from many other ways, read this "Get and Watch Free Movies on iPad/iPad 2", must interest you and supply the solutions, and there is another article titled "How to Put Home Videos onto iPad/iPad 2" in that iPad column must do some help for you too~

Pretty sure there is a free version of Air Video (just called Air Video Free or something in the app store?)
