I'm sure this has been asked a lot, but can't find it on the forum.

I have a desktop PC using XP upstairs and want to stream video to my TV downstairs. I have a laptop using XP and was thinking I could set up a network between the two to get the video on to the telly. Neither computer has Windows media centre but I do have a wireless network with good signal to the laptop downstairs.

Question is this: With the equipment I've got, can I get video to the telly and get a good result, or I am completely barking up the wrong tree? If I need other hardware / software, what should I go for?

Sorry that;s two questions? Grateful your replies.

Sounds like it would work with as long as you can connect your laptop to your TV either with VGA or S-Video.

Just access your PC from your laptop over the network and click the files to play. Not as streamlined as a full media centre box but it'll do the job.
