Streaming Video

Hi, im wondering if you can help me.

I have an mpeg video file which I would like to embed in my website. How would I go about streaming this so people could view them with their web browser.

Im thinking along the lines of a flash player, but does the file format have to be swf?

I think I may use windows media/ quicktime plugin instead. Do they stream or download the whole file? Also can windows media/ quicktime play mpeg?
