How the devil would you play SF4 with a mouse?
easy mate. mouses have many buttons nowadays so tbh i can't see the problem. for people that can't use other controllers, they should make all games with all 4 options (keyboard, joystick, gamepad, mouse) that way a person or disabled person (like myself) have a choice what to use..

No offence chap, but have you played SF4? I cannot picture how one would play a one-on-one fighting game using only the mouse.

Seeing as other games work fine and the problem just lies with Left 4 Dead, likes others have mentioned, just reinstall the game and then validate it to make sure. And besides, the Street fighter IV benchmark tool isn't really stressful enough to look for problems.

abit off topic, can the in-game controls be set to mouse or is it only joystick/gamepad?
Keyboard or Joystick/Gamepad only.

You could probably use some mapping software to configure the default keyboard keys on the mouse for like punching and kicking. But even then, thats probably the most you can get out of it. No doubt you won't be able to move at all and you just won't be able to get the most out of it i.e. perfect timining for complex or special moves. It's a huge limitation, regardless if you have a some super duper 20 button mouse that can map every button configuration, and 2D fighting games like Street Fighter are not the type of games to be played on a mouse. Some much older simple games could work, but not this game, so you will have to miss out or struggle on it.

how can i play it if not mouse control :D.. i've seen the benchmark demo, i can easyly picture me playing that game using the mouse, move the mouse left or right to move and the buttons to jump, kick, punch..

tbh i've played an old fighter game (forgot the name) using the mouse and it was great

Seeing and playing is a completely different matter. Just because it looks easy doesn't mean it is.

A fighting game in the calibur of Street Fighter IV requires quick and precise buttons timings which from a mouse is near impossible to do.

As for this older game, is it some basic game (like some cheap Flash-based game) or one that is near the quality of a Street Fighter, King of Fighters etc?

I think I remember the PC port of Virtua Fighter 1 and 2 being able to be played on a mouse, but again, that was not without some major limitations.

but that could be said about the keyboard. i can't understand how buttons on the mouse is different to keys on the keyboard.

even "if" using a mouse is near impossible to do. there should still give the option so it's theres if someone really wanna use that option.

I imagine it almost impossible to use a mouse on SF4.

Unless you only want to do the basic punches and kicks.

For example a simple combo with Ryu would be:

Jumping Hard Punch, Crouch and Medium Kick, Dragon Punch (which is Forward, Down, down to forward and punch in a smooth motion) Super fireball (down, down/forward, forward x 2 + Punch) then time his Revenge super which is the same as super fireball and three punches.

but that could be said about the keyboard. i can't understand how buttons on the mouse is different to keys on the keyboard.

Not enough buttons, there are 6 buttons alone for SF4, 3 punches and 3 kicks...

Plus you would need to get the motions for moves - which would be almost impossible with simple mouse movements to be precise / fast enough to pull them off.

i just feel abit *****off with some of the game makers... same with GTA IV game they removed the mouse controls of it. all the other gta games had mouse controls

A keyboard is still a lot better than a mouse for a fighting game. Sure, it's still not without problems but for SFIV, it is playable enough.

The fact that you use "two hands" on the keyboard is evident to that. One hand for the punching/kicking and the other for movement. Doing all that with one hand will just be too awkward and very struggling when again, you factor in the timings of complex or special moves along with some of the movement needed. One handed is obviously not as free and is very restrictive.

You really need to see properly how the game is played on an Arcade style joystick or gamepad and watch the reflexes for the button presses to get a better understanding. Otherwise this disccusion can just go on.

Again, the game can be playable on the mouse if you spend time configuring it, but like I said before, it will be extremely limited and far too restrictive. You won't be able to do more than punch and kick, a few simple step movements or maybe get a few lucky shots at a some special moves.

I dare anyone to pull off Super and Ultra Combos with a mouse, with exceptional video proof :D.
