In just over a year I've lost 5 stone, however I still have stretch marks which annoy me! Can these be dealt with in any way?

the only way to get rid of them 100% would be surgery, but it may leave you with scars.

there are creams for pregnant women and such, but i doubt after the amount of time you have had them that they are going to make much difference if any.

so your just going to have to live with it as a reminder.

they will keep fading and fading forever like any scar will. depends on how big/bad they are as to wether they will disappear or not .

could look at Microdermabrasion

Firstly, a huge congrats on the weight loss. That's great work. :)

They will fade over time, but you can get some creams which apparently work but only after prolonged use.

Sunshine works well too.

And then of course there's laser surgery.

Thats a great weight loss, congrats indeed.

They will probably fade over time, but at least for you they will be a good reminder that you managed it!

I have some on the fronts and back of my armpits, across my chest and the backs of my shoulders from an increase in mass.

Recently they've begun stretching where they have already stretched and looking very angry (red). They usually looked like this after training but now looked like it 24-7 (probaly due to hypertrophy training instead of strength training now so I'm growing more). Anyway I'd had enough standard moisturiser wasn't doing anything so took the plunge with some bio-oil. I just want them to not be such a bright red, a tan woukd probaly help!

A bit pricey. I got 2 x 200ml bottles for £25 delivered which I didn't think was too bad. Been using it for about a week 2-3 times a day on the affected and surrounding areas (also got sunburnt all over my back so slapping it on there too! :p). They're deffinatley looking slightly faded already and seem not to have gotten any worse (as they were shifting quite quickly).

Worth a shot. Not sure if they'll do much for already faded 'white/silver' stretch marks or any excess skin though. Will post some before after pics when i finish both bottles :)

Unfortunately prevention is much better than cure. The missus has no stretch marks and used bio oil throughout her pregnancy. I have pretty bad ones on my stomach after gaining weight rapidly after a football injury.

Mine have faded over time. They were red a few years ago but are whitish now. Like any scar, I think they're going to be pretty much permanent. If you look up my "surprisingly quick initial weight loss" thread there are some photos in there.

Contracts on the weight loss. I'm about 2 stone down on May this year, which was about 1/2 a stone below my all time heaviest. Not sure what I'm aiming for. Hoping the mirror and the wife will let me know when I get there.

The problem is really age. Things like bio oil and cocoa butter only really work on preventing and treating newly started marks.

Stretch marks are deep and no cream / oil / potion can really treat them.

They get lighter and less noticeable with time at least. But I believe short of cutting them out nothing really works on old / deep ones. Having them surgically removed isn't much of an option anyway imo as you'll just be left with scars.

The scar tissue also doesn't tan well, so tanning via sunlight / bed will only make them look worse. Fake tan can help hide them, but could also make them look worse if badly done.

Currently using cocoa butter, out of the tub rather than the bottle, seems to be working ok, but im only 17 i shouldn't have stretch marks! But they are from muscle gain rather than anything weight related :) Around my shoulders/armpits, and biceps.

E45 - it's keeping skin moisturised and in good condition.

Cocoa butter is excellent as well.

The advice to speak to a dermatologist is excellent.

You can try out some exercises to reshape your body rather than going for some self medication. Stretch marks are removable if properly handled. So don’t lose your hope and consult a physician for some useful exercises.

Getting these on the tops and back of my shoulders :(
Looked very red a few days back but after using various moisturisers they seem to have faded a bit :)

Been using Palmers coco butter lotions for about 6 months now and sadly its not a cure, just helps tempory hide your scars its good but tempory.

Im surprised too hear some folk have got it everywhere I thought it was just me ! I got scars on my shoulders and sides of my belly and on my upper arms, I guess I wont be sun bathing or going topless anytime in my life time.

I don't think there's a permanent cure as people have said no amount of lotions or potions are gonna ever really help, apart from surgery.

I guess perhaps when im 70 years old they may have faded.... then I can go topless and show my Grey hairy chest :)

I've got 3 or 4 scars on my lower back from a massive growth spurt I had when I was 14. It used to look like I'd been flogged, they were a violent red colour. Now they've faded to an almost invisible pinkish colour.

I was advised to use oil, but I only used it for about a month before I couldn't be bothered any more.

I have tried everything on the market to eliminate stretch marks and all usless tbh. The only thing that WORKED! Was exfoliating with a body scrubber, this will fade purple stretch marks over time be patient and do it every day or as much as possible. Failing that, plastic surgery is the only other option for guaranteed results.
