mite be being silly but how do i make my wallpaper stretch over both monitors instead of the same one on each monitor? cant see an option anywere to do it :(

Was never possible natively in Windows XP, but I used UltraMon to do it.

Not looked at Vista/Windows 7 for the same but there might be some native support!

At work I've got two Dell 17"s (1280x1024 each). Windows XP and I've got a jpeg of 2560x1024 set as "tile" and it works perfectly.
No third party applications/plug-ins needed.

It is possible if the resolution of the picture is the same as your two monitors (i.e. for 2 1680*1050 monitors you have a 3360*1050 image)

You simply set the 'picture position' option to 'tile' in the 'personalization>desktop background' window and the one image will display perfetly across the two displays (half on one and half on the other).

I don't think you can stretch a smaller image across the screens. Nothing to stop you stretching it in an image editing program and then using the tile method though.
