(maybe not up to Feeks standard.new aerial isn't going to fix endlesss summer maintenance on transmitters but that's another thread )

Have some paint+rust removal to do on a bike frame , have previously use drill mount wire brushes, but am just learning these V exist - are they much better ?
to uniformly remove paint/rust and, leaving smooth surface

Soda blasting is best. I use it on carbon fibre race tubs and it strips all paint but doesn't damage the carbon fibre.

On steel it removes paint and rust and leaves a matt finish. Residue, unlike sand blasting, will wash totally away with water.

Lots of places offer it, some are mobile outfits.

Media blasting is unfortunately out unless I disassemble bike completely,

Spent some time off today (last days of UK summer?) with my existing portfolio of drill based wire brushes
combination of 700W electric drill and smaller hobby drill for the intricate corners with small 1" dia brushes, both of which are challenged when trying to strip paint, which is just (relatively) too soft.
Applied phosphoric acid to convert some of rust patches (it doesn't obviously eat stuff - had a bottle I bought for radiators 10 yrs ago)
Will probably just apply some primer tomorrow zinc182 or acid etch to protect what I've done until I decide which rust stripper discs to buy to make a more thorough job

I'm sure public interest in car/bike DIY will return as the UK enters recession - these threads will become more popular .. like home cooking

I use the angle grinder versions of those strip and clean disks they are great, will take it down to clean metal quick but not eat at the base metal, they do wear out rather quick though.

Roloc discs are good but they do wear out a little faster than you might like, and also aren't great for getting into the smaller angles on a bike frame.
Wire wheels are good for those corners but they are much more brutal and can scratch the actual surface of what you are stripping.

Modern retail paint strippers are borderline useless; you can find Dicloromethane/Methyl chloride on Ebay which will do an ok job on any awkward bits you can't easily get to.

If you can make a vat using electrolysis is a very good DIY way to chemically remove rust without killing yourself. Using paint stripper first to remove the paint. Starchem iirc is the stuff I use.

Blasting is the best obviously if you can get hold of one.

Drills are also quite pants at removing anything due to the slow RPM. Much better using an angle grinder with attachments.
