Recently bought the Strix 970 to go alongside my EVGA 970. Soon as I installed it, one of the fans went to max. Both fans on the evga are fine, and the one furthest from the IO panel is idle too.

Any ideas? I've tried re-attaching the power cables and they seem firmly pushed in. The white LED is fully lit and I have no problems in games (just a quick test of the division).

Corsair CS850M

Ran furmark and the fans on the evga spun up as required, but the second fan just stayed dead. The fan works, because when booting up, both fans run at full speed for 2-3 seconds, then one stops.

Also tried re-sitting it in the PCI slot. Same behaviour.

GPU was definitely being used as GPU-Z reported 100% usage, full power draw and it was heating up. Getting the feeling the one i received might be a lemon.

Tried setting a custom fan curve in MSI afterburner?

Also select auto fan speed with just the strix in, and put it up increments of 10% and apply, try and see when they kick in. Should be able to narrow it down.

RMA would be the best option if it persists.

I'm surprised you can even enable sli with those 2 different cards i heard there are problems unless you use 2 of the same evga cards due to the boards they use.

I would have presumed they both have the same board? Only real difference is factory setting (voltage etc) and what heatsinks/fans they use.

Tried manually controlling fans with precision x and the asus one. Going to look into RMA'ing it.

Real shame, was looking forward to play with them tonight.

Nope with the 970 evga you can only sli with another 970 evga it's a known problem and they even have a page with serial numbers you can use with what evga card with what other one I would check it out if I was you.

There are loads of forum posts about this about people trying it with various cards and not working and having to use a Windows hack to get it to work which I wouldn't recommend unless you really have to as it uses Windows test mode to get around unsigned drivers

I've tried it with a zodiac 970 someone lent me with my evga 970 sc it doesn't work sli is grayed out.

Looking into it, the SSC seems fine with the strix. I did manage to enable SLI in the control panel, which other people haven't been able to.

Think I'm going to change the order to the EVGA one. Need to hear back from OCUK about my account and what the process is.

Thanks for the information.

Anytime bud hope you get it sorted out :) as when it works it's amazing the games that support sli were super fast but the ones that didn't like just cause 3 I tried didn't have enough frames for me and to play at 1440p so had to get a ti.
