Anyone have a suggestion how to make watching youtube vids less horrible sounds so tinny and horrible to listen too. Sounds great in games ect but youtube its horrible.

Thanks

I'm guessing it's because what you are watching on Youtube is in stereo. The problem using 5.1/7.1 where the individual left and right drivers or satellites are small, is that they are not capable of any bass. For 5.1/7.1 output, bass is sent to the subwoofer channel, which receives nothing when the signal is just left and right channels.

Doesn't the headset have a 2.1 mode?

How do you have them connected? I assume they are connected to the Strix also. Are you using a splitter with the front left and right of the headset?

They are connected through the Tiamat control box then to the strix, it was the reason i got the Tiamats last year so i can switch from speakers to headphone in one button push :)

Oh OK. Didn't realise you could connect speakers to the control box.

I think what's happening in regard to the speakers, is that they are receiving what the left and right drivers receive in the headset. So when 7.1 is selected, bass is sent to the subwoofer channel. Because Youtube is just playing stereo, you get no bass. Something like that.

If you select 2.0/2.1 as the output from the sound card, does that fix the no bass problem with Youtube?

On X-Fi cards, there was something called CMSS, which when checked enabled stereo audio to upmix to fill all speakers, rather than just stereo. Kind of like what Dolby Pro Logic does I guess.

I'm not sure if there is something similar on Asus cards. I've had three Xonar's, but never any 5.1 speakers at the time, so it's something I never bothered looking into.

If there isn't then switching the output from 2.0/2.1 and 7.1 is really the best option.
