STRIX Z270E Bent Pin?

Greetings Overclockers,

My feeling of woe has hit me.

Putting together my new rig to upgrade my dated PC (Put it together back in 2010) such as i7-7700k, Mobo, RAM, PSU whilst recycling my case, hard drives and video card.

Anyway, building away, had some issues here and there (what's with the back plate bits sticking out of the DVI and USB ports?), spent the majority of the time cable managing and thought, I better make sure this actually works. Plugged in and got nothing on the monitor, that's strange. Was being a bit stingy and plugged my DVI cable into the monitor, so I went around and put in my video card and thought that might've been it. Still nothing.

I noticed the LED on the ROG STRIX motherboard was Red...consulting the manual, said it was a CPU issue...but doesn't really go into anymore detail. Dismayed by this, I undid my cabling and eventually removed everything and noticed that the socket looked unusual.

That pin on the bottom right-centre of the socket isn't meant to be like that right???!?!?!? Is that even a pin? 1st Gen i7 was the last one PC I put together.

I've seen a video of LinusTips saying that you can straighten it again with a pin...but I don't think I have the dexterity to execute this...and at this point, I'm all worn out and hands are shaking...and my room's a mess :(

Was so looking forward to this, but am just left disappointed...not sure if it's my own doing, or the product came like this. Having built new PC's in the past, my 100% working rate took it's first hit.

I would contact the retailer and tell then that your new motherboard arrived with a bent pin. You would like a replacement as it is effectively DOA.

Ah cheers, couldn't take a closer picture without it being too blurry.

Seeing as it's late, all I've done it left a webnote with Overclockers and hopefully they can arrange something.

Hopefully they will accept a return. It would be really really hard to accidentally bend a single pin in the middle of a cluster without damaging other pins around it.

Thirded, it's not hard. Had to do this myself recently and was relatively easy. They are tiny, so get some strong light in there so you can see what you're doing.

It really isn't difficult to bend a pin back if it is only one and only slightly out of position.
Bent pins are usually not covered by a warranty.

I found myself in a rather worse situation:
