Hey guys,

I have been trying to get to 4ghz on air cooling(corsair A70), but with no luck..i either get a blue screen or freezes or the program fails.

Here are my settings(Asus P6X58D-E) :

Any help?

CPU voltage is too low.

Bump CPU Voltage to 1.35
Bump QPI/DRAM to 1.35
Leave DRAM Bus Voltage at 1.64

Drop all the other voltages to stock or Auto

I never bother turning things like Speedste or C1E or C-State off, it doesn't really make much difference to my clocking experiments and on some boards can prevent you getting where you want to go.

Anyway try that first, if you are successful drop the CPU Voltage down a notch at a time and retest till you get the lowest voltage you can.

Ok, ive been trying for hours to get this stable but with no luck. I cannot go over ~ 1.30vcore as my temps start to get too high, 80c on my highest core. So ive settled on 1.27500vcore and qpi/dram at 1.30. Decided to go 21x186 to get to 3.9ghz. Running OCCT now. See how that goes.

Hi, 80 degrees whilst high you would never reach that temp playing games, surfing the web, etc.
Have you got your case fans turned up? I've got an antec 900 with fans on high and the Megahalems cooler with two 2000 rpm fans in push pull and temps don't go over the low 70's with pc at 4.2ghz, though my pc is noisy which is why i'm going to watercool it :)

You mean low 70s whilst gaming or in Prime?

I got a Megahalems too recently, whilst gaming it usually is around 65-70c on all cores at 4ghz though sometimes it goes slightly over(i am not finished with fully tweaking the overclock yet though).I am using 2 apaches but i think i should have gone for higher rpm ones like the Scythe Kaze Jyuni Slipstreams or Akasa Vipers due to having a hot room sometimes.

keep going mate, i let my i7 go 85c max while stress, back when the d0 was new ocuk had lots chips doing 90c overnight with the Gelid coolers

Whilst running IBT or prime, doesn't get anywhere near 70 degrees whilst gaming. My pc is in the loft so on those rare days of sunshine the room is warm but in the winter its noticeably colder than rest of the house, I have to wear a jumper but its great for my pc :)
I've got two 2000rpm fans in a push pull, can't remember make i'm at work so can't check but they work great with Megahalems for keeping pc cool, just they are too loud.
Hi BigBruiserAl, I've had the chip at 4.4ghz & temps were ok just needed more work to get the overclock stable. I've got a quad rad and a dual rad ready to go into a single loop to cool my 920 do & 5870 so will have another go at taking the chip further then.

Hi Sycho, whats games are you playing and what programs are you using when you get temps of 65 to 70? Also what voltage have you got cpu set to?
Just checked mine playing BFBC2 temps were late 40's early 50's on cpu with Megahalems and early 50's on 5870 with the fan at 65% because I flashed bios to 1000 on core and 1300 on memory :D
Thats based on Core Temp and Msi Afterburner's readings.

Also, are you remembering to have your uncore frequency to double (+1) the RAM multiplier. That can make a big difference.

But yeah, the CPU voltage is far too low for 4GHz. Take it up to 1.35V and then lower it down as you test, to make it low, and stable :)

It's at 1.2875v i think and qpi is 1.34 but i haven't tried the qpi at lower settings yet also my room is a lot cooler today so probably be 5c less and i am using AS5 paste so i probably have to wait a bit for the settle in 200 hours thing? (i just got my cooler 5 days ago so)

65-69c is what im hitting in games as well, LinX/IBT tend to add 4-7c per core, but then i have two gpu's which add a bit more heat to the case.

Is it worth buying MX-3 and removing my AS5 paste? Will i see any difference? I'm stable at 3.9ghz at the moment, ran occt for 4 hours and prime95 for 6 hours.

MX3 is supposed to provide lower temps than AS5 and doesn't require curing time of 200 hours, so might be worth ago. I used MX2 on my setup and its been great.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but just thought id say i got upto 4ghz and stable yay lol, i did buy MX-3 in the end and it knocked off 8-10c off load temps enabling me to up my cpu voltage up abit to get to 4ghz.
