Anyone else not able to play for very long any more? I used to enjoy the long drawn out process of involved games, but now I can barely play for an hour before just switching it off.

I used to enjoy building up careers in things like driving games, now I'll just fire it up and maybe drive a couple of laps of a track in an open session and then turn it off, sometimes I even close the game before I've even played it, bored even with the thought of it.

It's a shame because when I was poor and playing a lot of games I would have killed for a system I have now, now I have it and I can't be bothered to use it :(

I'm usually just too tired to play properly in the week, and by the time I've caught up with chores and other jobs at the weekend I just don't feel like gaming for some reason.

Last night was a prime example, I had all evening to myself so I fired up Project Cars - did a lap and a half of Donington, spun a few times and rage quit. Fired up my latest save of New Vegas that I had put a little time into, literally ran about for 30 seconds and just couldn't be bothered so switched it off. Browsed Steam library for something to jump out at me, it didn't so I watched a film instead, which was gash anyway (Star Wars).

Complete waste of an evening.

I too am a jaded gamer. I have so many well received games in my Steam library that I've got nowhere with. I'll load one up and the tutorial will tell me to click on the troop menu, then click to build a tank. Then click on the tank and move it to the enemy troop. Next click on another menu to view the map. All I end up doing is clicking on 'exit to desktop', are you sure? 'Yes'. I simply can't be bothered with spending more than two minutes learning a game sufficiently to play it any more. Even the tiniest of irritations has me exiting to desktop when in the past I'd have persevered.

Exactly how I am.

I fired up New Vegas and got into a one of the scenes where you click through the characters talking, in the past I would have read it all, now I just keep clicking it until it's gone away and it lets me carry on with the game, only I've probably missed loads of important stuff by not reading it...

I did it twice and just switched it off.

Yes it probably is down to getting older, but I think it's partly to do with not having the time to properly immerse yourself in the game, I don't have time for endless options and binding a full keyboard's worth of keys, I won't play it often enough to remember all the bloody bindings anyway! If it needs anything more than WASD and LMB/RMB then I CBA.

We do need more games with original story campaigns though. Bioshock Infinite blew my mind, I loved every minute was genuinely gutted when it was finished.

I didn't even finish Bioshock Infinite, just found it really boring and repetitive like most shooters.

I've got tons of games in steam I haven't even installed, never mind played!

That's the killer blow for me, the fact that I can't even be bothered to install a game I've bought and not played, I've probably even got tons of keys in lost emails I haven't even used as well. Embarrassing...

I've noticed my interest waning since every game became MP focussed, it's like the SP story is just a load of garbage they've rushed through so they can say it has one. The modern focus/trend is definitely for sharing everything, even the mundane stuff you do via twitter/facebook etc. it's like that's been carried over into gaming. All I use steam for is buying and playing games, I've genuinely no idea what else you can actually do through it because it's just a means to play games for me.

I've no interest in MP/co-op games, gaming is always something I've done for myself, finding decent SP games these days is hard work.

This is my current Steam library, some of these may be ones that have come in humble bundles etc so not all are "my type" of game so to speak, anything there jump out as being a must play?

Picked up Wolfenstein on offer yesterday and I must admit, it's much better than I expected, most of the videos don't do it justice.

Not sure it's something I'll play and play over again once complete though, it feels like a typical 'play through' style shooter.

I think you have summed up the problem. I can't sit and watch anything or play anything without skimming the forums on my laptop or browsing facebook. It's A.D.D. to the max!!

Somebody else in the thread suggested that more discipline is needed, to just play the one game until finished. I think that's a good idea.

But your idea is good, too, a complete break from tech would be a good thing. A detox sounds wonderful, but I wonder if I have the will power to actually do it..

Fortunately I don't suffer from this, I don't do any form of social media and I don't use my phone for internet, it literally spends all day in the glove box of my van whilst I'm at work.

In fact I left it in my van on Friday afternoon when I got home and I couldn't be bothered to go fetch it out all weekend :D

I can still watch films and shows, sit and listen to whole albums as always, but for some reason gaming isn't one of them.

I find as I've got older, I very rarely like too much of a challenge anymore. I like a game to be difficult enough where it'll keep me focussed, but I find now if its too hard and things take multiple attempts I'm just too impatient and stressy to enjoy the challenge.

Finding the time to game is also difficult, with annoying adult commitments getting in the way, I'm also tired a lot which means I don't want to game.

With that all said though, I still keenly follow the gaming world and love to see new games etc.

Yeah I'm finding that a lot.

I think a younger me would have absolutely loved Dirt Rally, but the 36 year old me just doesn't have the patience to sink hours and hours of practice into it.

Certainly can't sit playing games like I used to. Then again I never used to have to work so much, have an AMG to play with and a fiancée etc etc. I guess life changes.

A few games can hook me now and again still though, but nothing like they once did.

Well if I had an AMG and a missus then the PC probably would have been sold long ago !
