Hi, have a p35dsl with latest bios and e2180 2ghz with stock cooler and 2gb of geil ddr 400.

I've had it at 2.5 for a month running the ram at 1:1 with everything else at default and its ran everything brilliantly.

Now im pushing it further I tried 3.0 with 1.48 vcore and its stable in games and prime but the temps get upto 88 and then intel lowers the ratio/fsb to make it cooler so thats pointless.

Tried it all the way down to 1.42 vcore where its still very hot but also blue screens on prime95 at this point.

I've got it at 2.8 now with vcore just 1 notch above the default setting, temps are getting upto 82 max and its blue screening on prime95.

Now going to try with 2 notches above default vcore.

I think my coolings the problem, case is a lian li pc 65 with 4 80mm casefans set at max speed.

psu is corsair hx 620.

So its not too bad and ive heard you can get to 3ghz with stock so wots going wrong?

You'd need to turn of speed stepping, virtualization and C1E in the bios. I dont recall all the settings as I'm at work at the moment though.

c1e and cpu eist are both disabled, tm2 is only on which is necessary otherwise temps will go dangerous.

which ones virtualisation?

Right, its stable at 2800 with 1.35vcore. ran prime95 for 30 minutes.

max temps were 85. I think time to cool it down a bit. I have a small 65mm fan that I can connect to the northbridge.

And I have a big 92mm fan. Where should I put this?

Ok, Opened the case theres so much dust in here I dont have a can of compressed air and I know you cant use hoovers so whats the best way of removing it all?

if you just wipe the hs fins this could work a little (most of the dust clings to the sharp edges), but its definitely worth getting some compressed air for a proper clean, it can get to places other practical things cant.

case is cleaned with hoover/toothbrush/womens makeup thing.

right, i have a small 65mm fan just the right size for the northbridge but only 1 tiny cable tie, any other way to attach it?

Wow, cpu is idling at 38 on real temp before it was 49!

And Still have 2 fans that I can attach sooner or later :D

hehe, the small fan was a delta 45mm Ive attached it with screws to the NB heatsink and damn does it scream, even with 1 blade missing it makes a lot of noise.

was the NB running that hot? if not you should be fine without that screaming fan on it, ;)
Is this with a stock cooler?
edit. yes it is with the stock cooler :o

i may be wrong but if you were running the cpu/ram 1:1 @ 2.5ghz then the fsb is 250 (250 x 10) then you have underclocked your ram, as its rated at 400mhz, change the memory multiplier in the bios until the ram is at or near 400mhz (or 800mhz as ddr2 ram is 400 x 2)

hmm at the moment its running at 2900 and the ram is at 967 or something. 3.5 ratio. is it right setting?

thats better, if ram is at 967 then you have it overclocked from stock speed of 800mhz.
but.
if you are trying to get the cpu to 3.0ghz then change the ram to nearer 800, as if you raise the fsb then the ram raises as well and it may not go higher than 967, so this could be stopping your cpu getting to 3.0
so change the multi back to 1:1 or nearer to 800 for now, then when happy with the cpu overclock, change back again and you may have to add 0.1v to the ram to keep it around 967 or higher

right, have it at 2900 with 1.38 vcore and I did a linpack occt test for 10 minutes. It was stable.

max temps mid 60s. took that delta 45mm out too, just too noisy and was vibrating too.

Whats more important ram timings or ram speed?

I can do 4 4 4 12 timings around the 800-900 mhz range.

Or I can do 967mhz with the 555 timings.

Which ones better for gaming?

Ram timing is a lot slacker these days, You don't need such tight timings now. I remember back in't day mu old Corsair XMS running at 2-2-2-14@T1 or something along them lines!

Settled for 2900mhz now plays BC2 properly now without major stuttering.

Stable 1 hour OCCT Linpack:

290*10/1.38125 vcore/3:3-967mhz with EIST/C1E enabled
