Think I must be missing something here as I'm stuck at 2.8Mhz :o

Went straight from 2.4 to 2.8 by upping fsb to 312 on stock volts of 1.225. 2x1gb Geil 6400 ULL at 2.1v, dram speed - default (ddr2-936) reading 5-5-5-15 in cpuz.

Other settings in bios Abit ip35 pro:

cpu vtt - 1.20v
mch - 1.25
dram timings - auto

Tried upping vcore but wont even post at 323fsb, just hangs on the 1st post screen.

Any help apprieciated.

Cheers mate, will give it a go.

Seems to have done the trick. Whats considered safe temp's ? I've only got a freezer 7 pro, plus my case cooling is pretty poor so things could get a bit toasty.

Its up to you what is considered safe, most say 70C a top limit, that's under full load using prime small FFT. what your temps looking like at the moment. you will probably need a Vcore boost to go higher.

take a look at the Intel quadcore database for some ideas.

im doing 3GHz with 1.272Vcore according to CPUZ 1.3Vcore in BIOS
that was just by upping the FSB temps are 51,52,46,46. you will see that there is a big diff between temps, this is because the IHS inst flat.

EDIT, as for what I think is safe I'm going to go on till I get 60 under full load. but i'm using low end water so some people will get better results off there air cooling than me. note i am planing an upgrade in a few months

it's a matter of opinion, some people say 70, some say 60, i like it stay under 55 myself.

I'm at 3.2GHz on 1.225v in bios, showing 1.20v in cpuz. Temps at idle are 43,40,42,40. How long should prime95 be run for ?

Thanks to everyone for the help so far :)

whilst your finding you limit 15-30mins of small FFT which will give you an idea of your temps, then when your settling down at a clock speed run it fot a good 8hrs small FFT and throw in a few hrs of bend to test everything else.

The max temp before you start to get auto shutdowns on a Q6600 is 100C, priming at around 70C is about as high as you want to go unles your brave as your CPU will never hit this kind of temp in normal everyday use unless your folding etc, but always aim for the lowest temps you can.

The golden rule seems to be to prime with small FFT's for 8 hours, don't ask me why its just generally accepted that if its stable after that period of time your OC is good enough for everyday use without any worries :)

(Q6600 @ 3.5Ghz max core temp 59C under an freezer 7 pro in an antec 900 case)

Looks like I'll be sticking with 3GHz until I get a new case and HSF. But many thanks for all the replys guys :D

I'd say no more than 90C but I've got a B3 Q6600 so put out a lot more heat than G0. It didn't start throttling until the temp was close to 100C and that was only during prime. Prime small fft load temp is usually 10C higher than normal load temp with F@H I find.

You can't overheat a modern Intel CPU. They throttle and shut down to protect themselves. Everything else is e-penis.

Those temps are fine, you should be good up to 65 degrees with that. With my Q6600, with a 1.275 ViD i was getting around 67-69 degrees at 3.42.
