Hi chaps,

Wonder if anyone can help with my dilema...

Ive read a lot about the new ATI cards and have decided to move from NV.

Im building a new gaming rig and just looking for some advice.

Get now....

2 x 4850 in Xfire?
1 x 4870
2 x 4870 in Xfire?

Or wait for the X2?

its the wait vs just getting on with it thing....anyone got any gems of wisdom?

Apologies,

I forgot to state gaming res.

Its going to be 1900x1200 (24 or 27").

Im more than happy to wait for the X2....im just concerned that there will be such a premium that it wont represent good value until mid sept...

in which time i could have been gaming for a month with a 4870...

then there is the 1gb 4870 variant to concider...

thoughts?

Well if you can't afford the X2 when it comes out then the single 4870 512 will be more than enough depending on what games you play. But the 4870x2 will be ideal for 1920x1200.

nuff said.

Cheers guys.

I will hold out for the X2 on release or thereabouts.

Do you guys think that the x2 is a better solution than 2 x 1gb 4870's in xfire then (whenever the 1gbs come out?)

gtx280 for me
the 4870x2 is stil choppy and altho it does well in 3dmarks its min fps is crap.. new drivers may fix this tho but it will be £320 on release

Actually thats a point about the GTX 280, lol nowadays i don't even consider nvidia ^^. if you have the money and if the 4870x2 seems to be a bit choppy in places after launch then im afraid im going to have to advise the nvidia route...but wait.

If you need a card now get the HD 4870 (so you can crossfire later), otherwise the 4870X2 is going to be worth the wait i would say.

Even if that's true it's no reason to get a GTX280. The 4870 offers 90% of the performance for 70% of the price.

Grab a 4850/70 now and sell it in October and get the 4870x2 if you think you need the extra power.

You will still get good money for your 4850/70.
