I've got a haf-x case and a p8p67 pro mobo, I've fitted my ocz hard drive to the front section but unsure where to attach my sata cable, I've got a red sata cable from the case it's self with no idea where it's going and an old hard drive that has no sata connection and I can't see any cables to connect it to the ne mobo

If it's a really old hard drive it may connect via IDE (the grey ribbon like cable).

I think all new mobo's still come with one IDE slot. As for the SATA slot's they're usually on the right side of the board, they're only small sockets.

I assume the case has a ESATA connector which the lead can connect to one of the SATA ports on the board.

The SSD use one of the cables which comes supplied and install in SATA port one on the motherboard.

Hopefully the above is what your after :)

If the hard drive doesn't have a sata connection, it'll have a long row of pins, two wide. Your motherboard doesn't have an appropriate connection for this, the cable is an "IDE cable". This is a consequence of combining a very new motherboard with a very old hard drive I'm afraid.

Missed the OCZ hard drive bit, that's a ssd. It does have a sata connection, the motherboard should have come with a number of spare red cables. The ssd probably didn't come with a cable.

Looking at the motherboards specs your board does not the IDE connector, you will need to have a search for a IDE to sata connector.

Looks like this new one does not have an IDE slot :D I fear I've bitten off to much building this PC solo with my usual safety net helper miles away :(

What's on the hard drive, can you purchase a new sata drive and transfer the data across using a older pc which has both connectors, SATA & IDE.

It's my old main hard drive with my xp data and all my music etc etc I've now found the sata cables which all have bloody L head connectors which makes multiple attachments a no go

if you're stuck or don't have access to an older pc as RJC suggested, do a google for this 'USB To SATA IDE External Docking Station' and you could connect your old harddrive to it and transfer your data to the new hdd

I'll take it to the local comp shop and get um to transfer it for me once I'm built and buy another hard drive that's not super old hehe, oh and one more the thing all the fans on the haf-x I've just got plugged into each other into 1 socket on the mobo is this a bad thing?

It's not a good thing, no. While it'll work, it may damage the motherboard. It's better to connect them to separate headers if possible.

Do you still have the computer the hard drive came out of? It's likely to have sata ports, so you could use that to transfer data across.

I do have the old pc but something died and because it was so old I figured a complete new pc would be a good idea, seems the transfer of old parts is gonna be a pain even the DVD rewriter has old IDE connections and 2 others which I don't have adapters for stupid technology

Legacy support was always going to disappear eventually. It's becoming increasingly difficult to connect a floppy drive up to a computer, and if you want a serial cable you're sol. All we're left with are usb - legacy adapters which never seem to work quite as well. All in the name of progress though, and progress must be good.
