I am currently using a Samsung 23SA700D and it's a nice 120hz monitor with good picture quality and some nice features. But, I hate the stand and I just feel like a change.
My problem is choice. I can't seem to make up my mind. Here is the shortlist of monitors
BenQ Xl2730Z (144HZ TN Freesync) New
Asus MG279Q (144Hz IPS Freesync) New
AOC 34777PQU (60Hz super wide) New
Samsung S34E790C (60Hz Super wide) B-Grade line
Dell U3415W (60Hz Super wide) B-Grade line
Ok, I have a max budget of around £500. That's why you see the two B-Grade monitors in the list.
I work from home so this monitor will be used for everything except watching movies as I have 50 inch Pioneer Kuro for that. But I guess been good at movies is a plus point
Here is a example of games that I play.
Path Of exile,
Kerbal Space Program,
Counter Strike Source,
Witcher II,
Skyrim,
Elite Dangerous,
Guild wars 2,
Elder Scrolls Online,
Borderlands 1/2
Bio Shock Infinite,
Metro,
Tomb Raider
etc. etc. I think you get the picture. I am not competitive anymore in games like Counter Strike so having the fastest reacting monitor is not a much of a problem.
For work, it's mainly web based, some documents etc. And since I do computer repairs the feature that I really liked on the super wide monitors is the ability to have two computers connected at the same time. It would be a real bonus to have that and would save a lot of space.
At the moment I am leaning towards the AOC 34777PQU. I want a monitor with better picture than my current one. And I love the idea of a super wide monitor.
But the gamer in me thinks I might regret the choice and should go with one of the freesync monitors. The Asus one sounds great but it's freesync capabilities top out at 90hz. As always there is the panel lottery with IPS monitors.
And round and round I go
Has anyone moved from a 120hz gaming monitor to a super wide and if so what have you thought about it? Have you regretted it?
Of the 3 super wides listed, which would you pick? Even if they are B-grade?
Anyway any advice is appreciated and might push me one way or the other.
