stuck in pc dos 7.1 loop

Having to post this from my 2nd PC as my main pc is stuck in a pc dos 7.1 booting loop.
My system was running well , so i thought i would create ghost image incase anything bad happened in the future, then i wouls be able to restore from my ghost image.
My OS is XP which is on an IDE drive, and i was going to use my sata drive as the destination drive for the back up.
so norton ghost started , my pc rebooted into pc dos 7.1 but just freezes ,
If i restart the pc it just keeps going into the pc dos 7.1 again and again.
What is the best way to stop it doing this , or do i have to get the windows xp cd out and repair windows ?

Norton ghost created it when it was making the ghost image , nope not dual booting

Just discovered that it is norton ghost that has made a virtual partition on my C drive.
as per this thread.

Phew just downloaded ghreboot.exe and put that onto a floppy
Then booted from the floppy,which inturn deleted the virtual partition on my C drive.
All seems fine now,was not loking forward to yet another reformat

BTW anyone know a good program that creates like an image of your C drive ,then when things go bad you can restore from that image ?
