Hi folks!

Friend gave me a laptop to have a look at. It is a acer aspire 5738z. Problem is one of the keys is stuck and we can't see which one as we cannot access windows. As there is a password screen and the password comes up in dots. So that is not help to me. And I can't put in a password because a key is stuck and we can't enter a password because the stuck key keeps typing.

Anyone got any ideas?

Has anything been spilt on the keyboard? This can cause shorts and make a key continuously seem pressed. As far as i'm aware theres no really fix for this, its new keyboard time.

you could try using a usb keyboard. You may have to disconect the onboard one first though.

I would take it out and inspect it as you may be able to find something wedged in it.

I have tryed using a USB keyboard. But I haven't got the option of disabling the onboard keyboard anywhere.

Would there be a way to open a command prompt or something I can type something in without booking into windows (or in windows logon screen)

You would have to unplug it internally, usually a case of taking the strip cover off and unplugging the ribbon cable, but if its still under warranty I would just get it booked in for a repair.

seems stupid to try it, with a stuck key dont you think :D

maybe try pulling the keyboard out, gently of course like the bloke above stated, generally there is a little film thing, you just remove that, and then usb keyboard should work.
