Stuck Late Build

Hey guys,

So I've gotten through most of the build alright (hopefully correctly), but I've noticed I have far more cables left over than I most probably should have, including a second CPU power cable which I'm confused about and the Sata power cables which I don't exactly know where to be put. Checked the motherboard and and the only visibly free slot is a Front Panel slot which I don't know what to do with either.

Help is much appreciated.

The parts on the table are:

3 Sata power cables
1 Perif power cable
1 CPU cable
what appears to be 2 Sata data cables
and 2 molex adapters (or so I think from what I could find on the web)

Then those 3 in the case

GIgabyte GA-Z97X-SLI

I've been trying to find receptacles for the Data cables on the board but those aren't showing up either

I have the same Z97X without derailing your threat could I ask how many Sata Power Cables came with the board am I correct in just thinking 2 in total?

So I've managed to connect almost everything but the 3 case cables.

When I start the rig, everything seems to work (PSU, LEDs, etc) but after it runs for about 5-10 seconds, it shuts down and repeats. I noticed the light on the CPU cooler (Coolermaster Nepton 240m) turns on when I power everything on, but switches off a couple seconds later, even when everything else is still running. Then just before the PSU clicks off, the coolers logo quickly lights on then off again with the whole system. There is no monitor image when this happens.

That's correct. I did manage to find the SATA Express ports, so I assumed that would be the right place to stick in my SSD and CD/DVD?

Thanks for confirming.

Yup that's correct.

5/10 Seconds then shuts down, could this be a temperature issue?

Are you sure the CPU Cooler is seated correctly. (Do the fans spin?)

That's all I have to add therefore hopefully someone with more knowledge can help.

Hey guys,

Haven't been able to continue with the build for the last couple days, but I got back to it tonight and everything seemed to be connected exactly where it should be, minus the front case fan which I have no clue what to do about.

I, however, decided to take a recommended step of removing a stick of RAM and voila! POST. SO, I'm currently setting up BIOS, but I wanted to know what steps to take with the excluded RAM?

if the PC boots with 1 stick then its possible that the other stick of ram stopping the PC booting is faulty.

try the stick of ram in a different motherboard slot and see if it boots, if it fails again then you will need to RMA the ram as its faulty.

I didn't know this and checked by swapping slots and sticking in that second stick again and it didn't boot. So seems you're right. I'll be checking into what I can tomorrow.
