Stuck on Oblivion 360 Mages Guild

I've made a bit of a mess of the Mages guild quest called "Vahtacen's Secret", the one where you have to use fire, frost, fortify and decrese magicka. I picked up the scrolls from the chest near where that guy's standing for the fortify and decrease magicka. I hit that column with the fire and frost spells but when i used the fortify magicka scroll the column closed back up. I've read online you're supposed to use the decrease magicka spell before the fortify. Thing is, i don't have a savepoint before i used the scrolls in the chest so i'm pretty well stuck now. I thought it would just be a case of looking round the guild halls and buying a fortify magicka spell, but try as i might i can't find one. I thought i could perhaps make one myself at the altars of spellmaking at the Arcane Univeristy, but the option to fortify magicka isn't there on the list.

Does anyone know someone somewhere that sells the scroll for fortify magicka? :(
 
I did the exact same thing and i was stuck for ages. It was so long ago though I forgot how I did it. Useless I know...
 
Go to the mages headquarters at imperial city and there is them steel gates leading to about 4 buildings and two have the enchantment machines and spell maker,create a 1pt fortify magicka spell and a decrease one if needed which is cheap and does the trick.
 
If the option to fortify isn't in your spell repertoir yet, you can get any old fortify <attribute> spell from the world. Not sure if Edgar has a cheap spell in the Marketplace.
 
Thanks for the replies, but it still doesn't work. When i get to the alter of spellmaking i can choose 'Fortify Attribute' and 'Fortify Skill' but when i choose one none of the options are Magicka, there's Strength, Intelligence, Willpower etc etc. If i choose Fortify Skill the options are Acrobatics, Blade, Blunt Destruction etc etc. Any ideas?

Edit. Just done it :D must have taken a few ingame days or something but i just went back to the Column and the spells i needed re-appeared in the chest :rolleyes:
