OK,

Last year when Windows 8 came out they were offering the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro ridiculously cheap. Little did I realise that a downloaded upgrade from 32-bit XP ends up as 32-bit Windows 8, aka "Chocolate Teapot". Luckily, when the hard copy arrived it came with two DVDs, a 32-bit and a 64-bit disc.

I have Windows 7 Professional 64-bit here....so if I can somehow "downgrade" from windows 8 to that, then I can use the 64-bit DVD to upgrade back up to 64-bit Windows 8. The problem is...how do I get there?

Has anyone any experiences or suggestions that would help me un-lame my PC?

Oracle...good suggestion but no dice:

I can boot from the CD but it just tells me to go back into Windows to upgrade, which leads to the above.

There is, however, an option for a clean install...I might try doing that on a new partition.
