Im stuck trying to get to 3.4GHz with my e6600. I have a feeling it might be to do with not adjusting my ram at all yet.

I have used just over 1.5 vcore and running the blend test in ORTHOS it stops in less then 10 mins. When i run the Small FFT's - Strees cpu test it went to 1/2hr without any problems (couldnt be bothered to do anymore).

Is it my ram causing the failure as i havent upped the volts to it?. And it so how much extra voltage do i give them.

Yeah as andy says, set ya DDR Voltage (VDIMM) to 2.1v (or the closest to that in your BIOS) and set the timings to 4-4-4-12 2T 800mhz and that is what Geil runs at stock... thats how I have mine still, and they run fine.

Then fiddle with your CPU clock and you should be ok, cos I doubt it would be the RAM then. If you think it is, run memtest on ya ram for a few hours prior to the clock and see if it fails... if it dont then you maybe ok. (do as many loops of memtest as you can, espcially let it do test 5 and 8)!

have you checked your temps?

yeah peaked at 57 though i forgot to adjust the settings so that the cpu fan would run at 100%. It was only running at 800-900 rpm

just downloading memtest ill give that a go a sec.

Overclcoking takes a lot of time :(

No errors for my ram. Guess my e6600 just wont run at 3.4GHz could try a bit more vcore but hmm I don’t know, atm after 13 mins orthos load just before it stops temps are peaking at 53 degrees with fan at 100% 1.5v which is still a fairly low temp but don’t think I would be happy using more than 1.5v.

Not what I was hoping or expecting from an e6600 :(. I want my money back :p. o well at least I got my memory sorted now 4-4-4-12 800MHz

Have you followed the stickied Gigabyte DS3.... guide in the motherboard section, there are a few settings worth playing around with that might help. Both the board and RAM are well capable of getting to the speeds you want so you may be unlucky and just have a CPU that doesnt overclock as well others.

hmm i skipped finding my max FSB. I will give that a go. My chipset might not have enough voltage.

1. Increase the FSB by 5MHz.
2. Reduce the multiplier and RAM divider if requried so that both are at stock speeds or slightly less.
3. Boot into windows and run SP2004 Blend Test, this will also stress the chipset and RAM so will be testing the FSB not just the CPU.
4. Run it for 30mins monitoring temperatures, if it doesn't fail goto 1 again, if it fails, go to step 5.
5. Increase the chipset voltage a notch and go back to 4.

Does this sound right. Sorry for being a pain but i dont really know what i am doing. But i wont to learn :p
