I'm looking around for broadband for a student house! We're not interested in spending £40 a month on getting digital tv or phone or whatever, just nice broadband.

I've looked at 02, and they offer 16mb broadband for £10 a month to 02 customers (me!) and that seems to be the best deal so far.

Does anyone else have any experience with that, better recommendations, etc?

You are probably better looking in Networks & Internet Connectivity there is a big thread over there.

But yes they are very good value.

student here, 4 of us in a house. vm 20 meg and phone deal. 20 a month then 30 after 6 months :)

works cheaper than just the broadband.

Have you thought about line rental?

Im looking into this too and virgin media are offering 15.50 with line rental (fibre at 2mb per sec) and that seems the best deal overall (not 100% sure what bt line rental is)

2Mbps for a student house is suicidal unless you know none of you will be using it at the same time, though it is pretty much the cheapest you'll get anywhere factoring in line rental.

10Mbps at £19/month (first 6 months) £27 thereafter or O2 (~£20 a month all in) seem to be the best high speed deals at the moment. Virgin is more expensive, but may be your only real high speed option if you live far away from the exchange (but still in a cabled area). Sky also do broadband for about £10/month, but I believe this is only when you take one of their TV packages.

www.samknows.com for more details as to what you can get in your area - you may find that the house you're living in isn't connected to an O2 Broadband LLU exchange.

remember if you go dsl you need to pay for the line rental as well from bt mainly which ranges rom £11-15

We went cable as there was no line renatal charge

2Mb isnt that bad, I've had a 2 meg line with 3 others in a house for 2 years and about to do it for a 3rd, it just depends on who you are. Even though I watch a lot of video on demand, I cant say I've ever had any problems.
