I'm moving into my rented house in cardiff at sept 28th and want broadband there when I move in. So I only need the line number right? I can set it up like 2 weeks before I move in and when I get there broadband will be up and running?

Yes as long as the house has an active BT telephone line. If it is inactive you should be able to get it setup for free but that will take a week or so. The worst case if it has no BT line at all, you will need to pay for an engineer to install the wiring at both ends which is £124.99 and also a real pain.

When I was living in Reading we went with NTL (now Virgin) as we didn't want a BT phone line for people to make calls on and then blame it on others.

Virgin let you have internet without phone.

Until 30th September, if you tie yourself into an 18 month line rental contract at £11.25 a month, all new line connections are free.

If you are planning on getting Sky TV, call them up and they should give you broadband and TV at their advertised rates and a £122 credit (to cover connection fee is not taking offer above) to your Sky TV account. The process for Sky Talk is slightly different but I don't have any experience of it.
