right so im in a student flat and theres 8 of us so far the landlord has set something up in the past 2 years (i assume) where it just comes to the occupier for electric and gas... however this year it asks for a name this year

can we set it up just to go to the occupier so its in no ones name ? as arguments are starting....

i know theres suggestions of pulling names out of the hat im trying to get around it plus theres 8 of us all together !!!

Last year we had all 4 people living in my house's names on it. Phone them up, I'm sure they'll be willing to stick all 8 of your names on it.

They can put all your names on it, but my god if arguments are starting over that before term even starts... good luck for the year.

your house blatently isnt gunna be fun.
Everyones name can go on the bill. Females are usually **** for paying up.
Also people that go home a lot and skip uni to stay at home try to get out of paying.
We had a bloke who tried to avoid paying a pretty substantial bill in first year, turned out it was big cos the idiot had left his electric heater on when he went home for a few weeks. good effort.retard.

Dont put your name on there, put a fake one, as others have said there is always someone that will NOT pay, if no one pays and they find YOU, you WILL pay the whole bill.

Put it in the landlords name and get him to put the rent up to cover the cost. Utillities/council tax should be inclusive in a household with so many people. Why should any of you be liable for other people’s bills?

I agree, don't put your name down and if someone suggests you do, put your name down for the broadband or the TV licence, its pittance compared with the gas and electricity.

Dont know if it helps you but when I was a student we took a bill each. Might be hard for 8 of you though

Gas
Electric
TV License
Internet/TV
Water
Council Tax exemption sorting outer

Yeah, I'm out.

in my final year we put all 4 of us on the bills, and the utilities companies were less than efficient and sent 4 bills out, one for each of us, with all 4 names on them, just in different orders, and another company just put one name on them, mine :/ and they didn't even spell it correctly

Rememebr if any of the sections of the house are "seperate" if any of teh individual rooms have locks then that means you need a TV license for each room as they are classed as seperate residences or some ridiculous thing.

I wouldnt go anywahere near putting my name on any of the bills in a shared household.
There WILL be smoeone that doesnt pay ro someone that forgets to pay and there'll be charges galore. If they dont get paid and any form of legal action is taken it's your name the company wll have.

Also if you put everyones name on there, if any payments go unpaid Im guessing it would be pretty much your word against their's.

Ther really is a HUGE difference between getting a house/flat with a coupla mates and benig packed into a house like sardines with randomers from uni.

Get thw landlord to pop them all in his name, then request he either includes these in rent (any increases to be accepted) or forwards the bill to you as tenants and you split it however. The guys that aren't ther a lot of the time or dnot have Pcs on 24/7 woud opf course argue an even split and you will have to work out the split yourselves.
