student sex attack

was expecting a cheeky cctv porn movie but got 3 pages of flame war... so dissapoint.

Don't know what's more worrying, how much CCTV there is watching us or how useless it was in preventing a serious crime.

Completely useless, there was a stabbing where i live A few years back, all horrifically caught on CCTV, didnt help the kid from dying did it... its shameful.

+1 You would think (or like to think) that if the CCTV showed a potential threat that someone would notice and phone/send for help. Such a shame that any man or woman should be touched without consent.

I've heard it said that CCTV reduces conviction rates, according to some studies, as the police won't investigate if there is no decent CCTV footage, whereas in the good old days they'd have looked for witnesses, etc.

This man needs to be caught,

I believe he is extremely dangerous and I believe he would/will attack. He has as you can see been looking for an opportunity and must have lost his bottle or was at least building to the attack.

She is very lucky indeed.

There was an attack! He didn't lose his bottle! The footage shows events leading up to the attack!

There's nothing "lucky" about it, unless you count it being "lucky" that the police haven't released footage of her being raped behind the bins, or whatever happened.

surely someone is watching the events as they happen? the bloke is obviously suspicous due to the way he keeps looking around to see if anyone is watching? why didn't the cctv control room get the police to the scene?

Even assuming someone was watching all of that, nothing illegal happens in any of the footage.

I remember being told when i was starting at Cardiff university that there is a 1 mile square in the city centre which is completely covered with CCTV... I think this falls into that area...

Yep, it does nothing but help bolster the reactive attitude of the current policing system.

CCTV operators can sit and watch someone get battered to death - but it's OK, the perps were caught on CCTV so they'll be punished for what they did (sorry, rehabilitated).

Pity for the poor guy who gets his head stoved in.

if she was raped it would have been "student raped" not "assaulted".
