Im a student in my last year and have recently been going on some big nights out. Nights such as last night at mission where tidy boys and lisa pin-up were.

Ive always liked trance, dance and hardcore since I was about 13 (then loved rock for a couple of years), but then I went to uni and had to suffer the terrible nights of build me up buttercup, queen and baywatch amongst many others. A few days ago I went to gatecrasher where they had queen on at about 1.30 in the morning, at which point I left in descust. The price to get in after a certain time was £15 aswell (i didnt pay this thankfully) and the dj was a complete joke. I could have done better on virtual dj I think

Why do places think all students love terrible cheesy music? And why dont venues pay a bit of money to get some good djs/rock bands or whatever?

because normally students on a night out are drunk and have no idea what the hell they are listening too.
drunk people listening to cheesy crap means happy drunks. better to have happy drunk students than idiot drunks who are in the wrong frame of mind and start fights.

slightly bias comment. TBH ive seen more fights at cheesy all you can drink places than at trance nights. Everyone is far more happy at those nights

And where the hell has all the decent R&B nights gone in leeds?

Correct.

On the note of cheesy music, I was getting the train back to uni today and on the platform across were 4 chav girls with their "music" blurting out of their mobile. Some crappy tune with abit of bass and some high pitched "singing" going with it. Is that the kinda of crap that gets played in clubs etc these days?? They aren't my scene so I don't tend to know whats playing at these places.

nah, thats the pop dance which is 'scally' and rubbish. Stuff is played more on the lines of this. (but nowhere near as good)

everyone in there was happy, no fights or anything. Just people REALLY enjoying themselves, which is how it should be

That's down to your personal taste but what's being played there definately isn't cheesy "Scooter", "Ian Van Dahl" or "Darude Sandstorm" crap.

couldnt have put it better myself

Cheese is awesome when you are drunk. End of.

Just out of interest, which uni do you go to? If you go to somewhere in a small town/city like Loughborough then surely you can't expect a huge variation in nightlife? I'm at Manchester and I don't have that problem at all

Leeds.

Psyk -thats a good point about people with different music tastes

there used to be a great night on at rehab on thursdays that put hip hop on all night. that was really good.

Heaven n hell used to be good on wednesday (£7 all u can drink) with a selection of downstairs harder trance/dance, middle hip hop and upstairs cheese/cheesy dance

Just seems to be getting taken over by places like oceana and its random rubbish in every room

With respect m8, most trance is pretty cheesy. Leeds is overflowing with awesome proper underground dance nights playing high quality deep house, breaks, minimal, tech-house, electro etc etc, such as:

Back To Basics
Technique
Asylum
Dirty Disco
Abbatoir

If you want a great night out next Saturday - catch Technique/Asylum's opening night at their new venue, The Warehouse

thanks mate, yeh i saw that. I think im off to preston for good greef on the 30th. Dont get me wrong leeds is good for nights out but dirty disco i know at least plays more of the funky type of house.

I will go to warehouse though as ive heard thats quite good, ill have a look what abbatoir is, never even heard of it!
