I need some on advice on how best to memorise exam books. Unfortunately I've always been useless with exams despite working in IT which requires lots! I've got by on not doing many for nearly 10 years but have now moved into a new role which requires me to pass some.

I've already started reading the books but can already tell the same thing is happening as always; I read a couple of paragraphs then start to almost get a bit sleepy and I lose concentration and can just tell that I'm not taking in what I'm reading. Any advice for ways around this? It doesn't seem to matter where or when I do this and getting buzzed off caffeine makes no difference...

I will be attending a 5 day bootcamp before I take the exam but want to memorise as much as I can before then as I know I struggle!

Try making notes - it sounds bizarre but something I find doing so helps recall insofar as I can actually remember whereabouts on the page I made a specific note - kind of like a visual memory cue to help recall

I agree with this, I often make notes now and it helps a lot.

What exams are you going for?

I've been studying for the past 18 months and found taking notes while watching the videos helps. Then reading over my notes at the end of the day.

Im going for SSCP first, maybe CISSP or something else a bit later down the line

Ive had lots of people telling me to take notes, just need to work out exactly what to write down and what to not bother with or I'll end up copying the whole thing!

I know what you mean. Ive never been good at exams. I'm the person who scored less than D's in Maths, English, Science GCSE 18 years ago back in school.

Now Ive been self studying for my MCSA and MCSE, I have passed 3 exams so far plus the ITIL Exam (which I found so boring but I didn't pay for the one) I have changed for studying habits compared to when I was at school. Taking notes on the important things which I know I will not remember helps me get by. Each time I study, I seem to fine tune my note taking habits to a point I am not writing out the whole book.
