Right, I've had it with being stomped!

I'm going to sort bits out my bits box and start a farm under my desk now I've got a router with more ports. I don't think mrs fatiain's going to let me have any more monitors so how can I run folding boxes "headless". I've seen this mentioned before.

Ta in advance.

EDIT, what's happened to the sigs?

How headless do you want to run them?

The easiest thing I find is to build a PC and install XP Pro as normal but just take the monitor off after it's done. Just need a power lead and network cable (wireless PCI card is tidier and easier if you have spares) so you can use FahMon to monitor the folding folder, that way you can see wether it's working :)

You'll also need to tell the BIOS to halt on no errors otherwise if it detects certain things missing such as a keyboard it'll halt the boot sequence.
I've had a PC that I can't tell it that so I've had to leave a keyboard plugged in to it, I had one lying around anyway.

Somethings up with the stats site or somesuch it's explained in another thread here somewhere. Nothing to worry about it'll all come back.

Fahmon to check em, vnc as a virtual monitor. Thats what i do.

Heres vnc. Its free, run the server bit on the folding nodes and the client on the pc to want to monitor it from. Just have to type the ip to view a pc.

XP has a built in remote desktop but I like ULTRA VNC better (and better than the other VNCs out there) Tight VNC is good also, but REMEBER all VNC type software USES CPU WHEN RUNNING (IE when you view that desktop.) so don't have it on all the time, just when you wanna check up on it.
you can also use FAHMon to check remote clients by sharing your folding DIR

They've been affected by the switch of networks at Stanford :o

Not sure if it's gonna need Garp to change anything or if we're still waiting for Stanford to sort something out - once EOC has started updating their stats again we'll start worrying :p

edit: lolzers at the MSPaint siggy's around the place! :D

Nope no changes were needed - I saw that Stanford have got their txt files updating again which is where the sigs and EOC get the data from so I clicked Garp's trusty update link he gave me a while ago

TADAAAAAA!!! oldy foldy sigs are back :)
