hi guys i want to upgrade my broadband but guss what im 6kms from my exchange and i currantly use 512 kb i want to go faster and every i month iput in a request with my isp f2s to go faster , they test it and guess what ,failed including distance from exchange , my line is in 10 years so we arent talking vintage stuff , i had a talk with a bt engineer and he says that the line could be running all over the place before hitting the exchange, im using an old router 4/5 year old do you think i am wasting my money upgrading to a new system and i suppose it wont increase my d/loads ,sorry i am starting to ramble on a bit but i feel that i am going to be left behind in the speed stakes and a house move is out off the ? so what are my options or am i truly stuffed

What router do you have at the moment and are you able to see any line stats on its config pages?

Should be along the lines of SNR/ Signal/Noise Margin, Attenuation and other things like that.

Line stats are useful, yeah. To be honest, if you're 6kms from the exchange (straight line distance?) then you're unlikely to be able to get particularly higher speeds from any form of adsl on the market at the moment. I'd recommend looking into alternative forms of broadband such as wireless or cable.

Or move house ;)
