Hi all,

After waiting for christmas to provide a good sale there were none for 48" OLEDs or worth, i really wanted to try a 55" as the discounts kept on going, but cannot justify the size as it would look silly in living room alcove.

Therefor 48" is the way to go, issue is, the pricing for them is stupid, even though i understand the manufacturing process it makes no sense why they are priced so badly (especially given the profit they make as a whole on their 55"s, believe tech radar even did a post about it all).

Anyway, my question is this, new OLEDs are coming out soon, but all i can see is more 55" and yes there are 42" OLEDs, i cannot see any mention of 48"s being discounted.

so what do you do if you want a 48" OLED? continue to wait, and if so for how long? or just stump up the money and be forever angry that your paying over £400 more for 7" of less tv!

Difficult to answer really, there's more manufacturers producing OLED this year (Phillips etc) plus, as you mentioned, the 42" is on the horizon. Maybe they will bring prices down, I'm waiting for the 42" myself.

Btw, to make your day even better - the 48" is also worse than the 55" (brightness etc), so you're not just getting the same PQ in a smaller size. Just get the bigger one, you'll love it soon enough.

I'm kinda in the same boat, my partner and I agreed to not spend any Christmas presents on each other but pay towards a new tv after the new year.
Not sure if getting a 55 or 65 is suitable in the room, we all want bigger the better but from my sofa distance 55 is fine however with prices coming down slowly (keeping eye on hotukdeals) the difference between 55 and 65 are getting closer to each other. I think when the CX models came out and for 5" difference the prices between those models for almost £600+ difference.

I think when the new 2021 models come out in March / April the old stock will be discounted (not heavily) but enough to go for the larger spec where as before it was out of our budget.

To make this harder I can get a Sony A8 for £1k and abit from a well known electronic store... Yet the 48" is £699 more!

This just mental, the 55 just too big which very annoying but I feel to be penalised for going smaller is just crazy.

I guess I'll just have to wait but rumours are the new 42" are going to be even more expensive than the current 48" and no news on any price changes for current 48" models .

Tough times

I did say usually. There can be delays for various reasons. What I said is based on my own experience in electrical retail, but that was 20 years ago & manufacturers time scales may have changed.
I think the LG OLED do come out sooner then the Sony & Panny OLED due to it being LG own panel..

just get the 55, its not that much bigger. doesn't really matter if it looks silly in the space its in as you say, all that matters is what it looks like watching it.
you may have to wait a while longer for prices to drop again, i've got a pannasonic 65" coming monday and have noticed that the prices for it have just gone back up to 2k, i assume thats similar for all makes.

don't think my wife will be to happy at first, she said the 50" was to big when we got that 8 years ago

LG wasnt the telly colossus it is now back when I was selling tellies. Sony was the market leader at the time, but their tellies were not without problems. LG & Samsung were regarded as 'budget, cheap & cheerful' Just after I left in early 2001, Samsung & LG announced big expansion plans. How fortunes have changed in 20 years.

I've always liked Panasonic hardware. I've owned both Panasonic & Technics bits & pieces over the years & they've been good. I don't like the direction of Panasonic getting the likes of Vestel to make their cheaper & smaller tellies though.

id love to go for that, but dont think id get away with it lol.

just mental that we penalised for wanting to buy a TV that we want size wise and instead pushed into buying what's easy to produce for them. Spoke to a guy at RS and he said they cant see any 48" tvs being reduced untill after easter ! :(
