I am in the process of trying to pick a laptop for college and really can't choose. I am looking at the following laptop:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-202-MS&groupid=959&catid=1828

This seems like a really good spec for the money, or at least my out of date mind thinks so :p.

I am looking to get a laptop for long term usage, be it college/uni and home gaming. I can spend more money but at what point am I simply not getting any returns for my cash?

I can stretch as far as this:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-199-MS&groupid=959&catid=1828

Are there diminishing returns, given it is £900 more expensive. Is the CPU that much faster? I know the GPU is faster, that's a no brainer. What else is my £900 buying me here?

Is there also any point in even remotely considering single or SLI 870's, or 965s when there are 970 and 980 laptops at cheaper prices?

Any advice is greatly appreciated .

Hi Gibbo3771,

The following deal from OCUK really does give excellent value, the laptop was selling at £1,549 about 6 months ago and currently we are bundling with a good quality AORUS gaming mouse (RRP £69.99) and a very high spec AORUS Gaming Rucksack (RRP £99),,,, bundle with the laptop @ £1,399

Gives you a good down the middle of your budget price, and some genuine added value extras.

Check the link to see all the video giving a guided tour of the rucksacks inner compartments, ideal for laptop + college books and STUFF !

Hope that helps anyway.

HI Gibbo3771

In regards to both machines you have picked two really great specs. Gone are the days of a massive difference between desktop and laptop gaming in terms of performance. A GTX 970M should play pretty much most games at really good settings with a few noticeable exceptions.

What you are getting

GS70 (£1099) compared to GT72 (£1999) is

- More powerful VGA
- G Sync Screen
- Upto 3x External screens output
- Graphics are also MXM Module which means you can upgrade them at a later date

Also worth mentioning that as well as the free headset, we are also including an extended 3rd year warranty which really protects your investment
