Morning chaps,

Rather then go the usual flagship phone on contract route I figured I'd save money by going sim only + buy a new phone outright, phone has to be on the rainforest as I get a £40 voucher with the sim plan (bt mobile 15gb). The Ossie is I'm non too clued up on what makes and breaks a good phone.

Looking to spend at most £200 (after voucher so £240). Handsets I've got/had my eye on...

Nexus 5x
Moto x play
Moto g4 plus
Elephone p9000
Oneplus 2 (this is the very top of budget)

Any recommendations or phones I'm missing I should look at? My only real requirements are that it's Android, 5-5.5", fhd, microsd slot, decent rear camera and doesn't choke with multiple apps open.

I would have continued using my one m8, but the vol up key has given up and it's started crashing quite a bit.

Thanks in advance!

a lot of those phones don't have sd slot like the Nexus and oneplus 2.

The real bargain phone at the moment is the OnePlus 3. Yes it's £309 but it has the build quality and specs of a £500 to £700 phone. I recommend you have a look at some YouTube reviews. It's in a whole different league to the phones you have listed and should last you a few years spec wise.

Ah I didn't even realise that about the nexus and oneplus 2 :o

I'll look into the oneplus 3, though £309 with no £40 voucher might be a deal breaker, or at least give me earache from the Mrs :p

The OP3 also has no sd slot but has 64GB onboard and dual SIM slots.

Some reviews below

Great in-depth camera review

Overall review.

Thanks it's looking like the safest option now, g4+ only has 2gb ram (more expensive 64/4gb version not available until the end of the month!). Was almost swayed on the elephone p9000, though seemingly has a whole host of issues surrounding build quality and support.

64gb internal should be fine too, how is their warranty support?

Buy a Redmi Note 3 pro for £150, spend the £40 amazon voucher on something else.

This is also a good option for the price if your happy with the specs.

OP3 has gone upto £329 today due to the £, which sucks a bit.

Warranty is a shady area with these Chinese phone's. Pay with paypal to protect your for 6 months (not 100% sure). You may have to read up a bit on people's experiences. Officially the OP3 should have at least a 1 year warranty.

Just picked the Nexus 5x up today myself, the Chinese phones do look an attractive buy but I'm very wary as I'm rather clumsy and getting them repaired would likely be a pain.

The Nexus seems good so far presentation the lot, does everything I need it for without any hassle, not tried any games on it as I'm not a big mobile gamer,

The only thing that's worried me is the USB cable got stuck after charging and took a lot of effort to get out, was worried the case would snap first but came out eventually.

Edit: was at Argos for £180

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I can't see the 64gb/4gb RAM version of the Moto G4 Plus on the rainforest site though.

Its not listed, on moto's store it says no stock until the 29th of the month.

What are you upgrading from out of curiosity? And be prepared to fight for that Amazon voucher! Took me 3 months to get mine from BT.

HTC One M8, the things taken a beating over the last 2 years, to be fair its only just recently started giving up the ghost. A month ago I was prepared just to run with this for another 6 months or so, but it has to go now as it only occasionally will want to take pictures, vol up works maybe every 1 in 5 and its crashing once a week or so.

They say 14 days from date of order, so 2 weeks today I'll be phoning to get it.

I think I'll have to take a pass on the oneplus 3, the warranty situation isn't ideal for £330 down, at least via amazon I can push them to deal with an warranty issues for the first year (god I love amazon CS!).

Also given that I have to wait 14 days for said £40 voucher, I'll use that for a case, dock, etc... rather then the phone, plus its Prime day tomorrow, so I'll be keeping an eye on what phones come out.

I have to say there appears to be a gaping hole in the market around the £200 mark for a 3-4GB, 16/32GB, mSD, FHD, 6.0+ phone, you either sacrifice one of those and pay £30-40 less, or pay for more then that and end up with 6gb or WQHD or something.

Provided nothing pops up on prime day, the redmi note 3 is looking like a winner to me.

My thoughts exactly op. The Wileyfox Storm seemed to fit the bill but has got very mixed reviews. Latest reviews seem favourable though.

Afaik its the battery that take a kicking, lack a fast charge doesn't help either. Was hopeful they were going to release a fresh flagship when they announced their new line the other week but nothing of note :(

Where does it say that? from what I remember you have to claim it from the website below and that says 45 days!

https://www.vouchers.bt.com/offer/mobileclaim/?s_cid=con_FURL_mobileclaim

I know you say you wont be using it to buy the actual phone just thought I'd give you a heads up, often when BT sim deals pop up on deal sites there are many users stating you have to hassle them to get your voucher.

No personal experience with it but have you looked up the Honor 7? seems to tick most boxes but not sure on the OS. Its not snapdragon based either so different ROM's might not be about.

I was thinking of the Redmi Note 3 pro prime but it's camera is putting me off. I missed out on the father's day sale for the Motorola X Play, coukd have got it for £190. It only has 2GB of RAM but tbh that's not an issue for me as I'm ocd about closing apps. Also rumours are it will get the new Android OS called N.

If the Honor 7 does interests you, literally just read that the Honor 8 has been announced and goes on sale in China on the 19th so I would imagine it will be coming this way soon so amazon might start selling it off cheaper.

I'll keep an eye on the Honor 7 tomorrow, currently £249, looks decent, has some good reviews too, just hadn't given them much of a look as far as Chinese phones go it was one brand I'd never heard of :)

As it is I'd cope with 2GB now, but in the future? Who knows, I'd rather get a little bit more life then 2GB may offer :)

That is good news, what better time to slash the price then on Prime day? :D

Ahhh you see it says you can't claim for 14 days, then its upto 45 days for the voucher to arrive so you are looking at 2 months at the earliest before you get your voucher.

Oh well that rules out using the voucher towards a new phone :p

Bit ****** of them tbh, leave it 2 months, hope customer forgets about it and doesn't claim.
