...I just got a Facebook message from one of my mate's friends, telling me to call him as it was about my mate.

I called him, and find out that my mate died last night in hospital, due to something or other being in his blood.

I know my mate had cancer, but as far as I knew it was all being treated well and he was over the worst of it.

I'm just stunned and confused now. :(

sorry to here mate, especially so close to XMAS. grr at Cancer we need a cure ASAP. it will be hard but try and enjoy yourself over the hols.

Really really sorry to hear that. Was it a very close mate?

He was my flatmate last year in halls (5 people to a flat). I admit, this year I didn't see him, but that's because over the summer is when he was diagnosed with cancer.

Yeah, quite close I guess.:(

I can relate to that, you do share a significant bond with those you live with. I regard many of my halls friends are all close to me.

It's a terrible thing to happen. Again, my condolences.

Sorry to hear it . Just makes you reliase how short life is and how it shouldnt be wasted.

Just chatting to my friend who also lived in the flat last year and she spoke to Mark (the guy that told me about Lee) and he explained what happened...

Mark said:
He had cancer and a tumour on his heart, they treated this wit hchemotherapy to try to break it down and it helped a bit. He then had an operation to remove the tumour at the end of November, they only managed to remove 10% of the tumour. Due to the intensity of the operation and the pain he was in, the gave him a month to recover and planned to start therapy again in Jan, more chemo, and possibly radiation therapy. the sun before he died, Lee woke up with blood shot eyes so his parents took him to hospital again and he stayed in for three nights. Apparently the cancer had started to effect his bone marrow and he wasnt making enough platlets in his blood. They gave him some platlets but he used them up really quickly. On the 19th, I text him askin if he wanted to go to town (I didnt even know he was back in hospital) and he text back sayin he was in pain and was having more tests and treatments. At about quarter to 8 in the evening, he died.

Lee's funeral was on Thursday, there was a huge turn out, the small chapel it was held in didn't have enough seats, and the room was packed with family and friends standing up everywhere.
It was nice to be there and know he's at peace now.
I was upset but didn't cry (not because I'm a big hard man - as I'm not - but because it didn't truly hit me whilst there), but I was standing next to a small boy (must have been like 6 or 7) and he was sitting there with his tissues being slightly upset, but I'm guessing not understanding it all, but he offered me a tissue as I obviously looked upset, which was really sweet of him, and made me actually feel worse (although I'm not sure why).

Just thought I'd give a little update on this thread. :)

RIP Lee, you were a great bloke and will be missed by many.

I know I'm reviving an old thread, but I don't like making new ones if I don't really need to.

I know that none of you lot knew my friend that died of cancer just before xmas, but if you feel like giving then please donate here to aid cancer research. My friends are doing the race for life in memory of Lee which is really good and nice of them.

Cheers
