Had a call from the wife, her car has died. Squealing noise, then smoke from under the bonnet, then the steering went kaput.

I take the Vit & the towrope and go to fetch her.

Get to the car and find the tensioner on the fanbelt has siezed and burnt through the fan belt.

No biggy, drag it home, fix it in the morning.

Drag it home, hmm, snag. Where is the towing eye?

Remember that hideous go-faster bumper the 306 came with?

Well to complete the "smooth" look, the ___ing self-manipulator CUT OFF THE TOWING EYE!

Ended up having to wrap the rope around one of the engine mounts and drive home at 10mph, which was fun.

And to complete my evening of fun, i've had a nose on the bay and found a replacement tensioner. For £55

and breathe.

I don't know if you've made a previous thread about the purchase of this car, but why the hell did you buy it with that crap on the front?

The morale of story (sorry) - never buy ex-boyracer's car. We have learned a lesson from my girlfriend's old 206 which we got rid of it last week....

£165 is a good enough reason for me :)

Admittedly it's going to cost roughly £100 to fix it tomorrow (as i can be sure the local motor factors will cost a crap load more than 55 quid!) :(

She can kiss goodbye to her wages this weekend ;)

£55? Technically thats a write off then :D

Is your wife not beginning to get ****** off with all these really cheap cars? :p You seem very handy mechanically but a bit of investment in the first place would save all this bother!

The POS astra wasn't even a cheap car! Still cost us more to keep it than it did to buy it.

If she'd stop spending money on bloody cats then we might have some cash to get something half tidy.

On the other hand, she's putting 350 miles a week on the clock, so we don't want anything too nice.

N13190 RIBBED BELT TENSIONER 306D XUD9 29.00 (+VAT)

That not a much more attractive price for the tensioner? Assuming I have the right one?

There are 3 different fitments of tensioner for the 306 D. This one runs the most expensive :( And it had to be fixed for her to go to work this evening, so i had to pay retail

N13171 RIBBED BELT TENSIONER 306 1.9TD + AIR 58.50
N13190 RIBBED BELT TENSIONER 306D XUD9 29.00
N13173 RIBBED BELT TENSIONER 306 HDi 23.50
N13180 RIBBED BELT TENS-LOWER 306 HDi 31.50
N13171C RIBBED BELT TENSIONER 306 19D DW8 12.90

Those are the listed for 306's, I daren't ask what you paid, and I realise yours isn't a hdi but they don't seem too expensive to be honest!

Where are they from? (might be useful for when i do the cam belt in a couple of weeks)

 dual post

You are going to be even more pee'd off when I tell you that there is a GSF branch in Valley Road/Plympton!

GSF and Euro Car Parts are the only places to go if you drive French metal on a budget ;)
