Stupid Chromecast Audio question (optical cable)

Currently running my CCA into my hifi via 3.5mm. However I'm about to upgrade my amp to an AVR which will have optical in. Is the £15 optical cable that Google tout on their store simply a mini toslink to toslink cable?

I.e. the same as the Amazon basics 'Toslink to Mini Toslink Cable (3 FT / 0.91 M)' ? :confused:

Yes, it just outputs light - get the cheapest one you can find, it'll be fine.

No, it's slightly different as one end is shaped like a 3.5mm stereo jack and the other is the TOSlink plug

Ignore me, amazon gave me an item with various options on the one listing and defaulted to the TOSlink - TOSlink not mini... :rolleyes:

I have had the the Fisual 1m Install Series Mini-Toslink to Optical Cable, in my basket for a long time, for that.

I'll have to find the link, but had thought there were known issues with the asynchronous optical out on the CCA, plus its inbuilt DAC is pretty good.
(maybe someone else know the story ?)

I'd be interested to know if there's any issues.. but I doubt the DAC in the CCA will be better than the one in the Marantz SR5012 I've got my eye on
