stupid crossfire problems

Ok I am running out of ideas now, and seriously considering getting rid of my 5850 crossfire setup for a single Nvidia card, absolutly had enough.

Basically a few of my mates decided we would play some F1 2010, a perfect excuse to use eyefinity, so I invoked my eyefinity profile to enable the 3rd screen, now unfortunatly they were arranged incorrectly so I had to adjust the profile and thaught nothing of it.

Now for some reason since then my 2nd graphics card does nothing, absolutly nothing. It just sits there at 0% useage at a clock speed of 400MHz. Games which i ran fine before with crossfire such as bad company 2 and L4D2 now report 0% useage on GPU2 in afterburner.

Am I missing a trick here or are the AMD drivers just as bad as people say, I've never had any trouble till now, but if i cant resolve it Im going to sell them both and get a single card replacement.

Using drivers 11.6 at the minute, crossfire is definatly enable in the gaming section and everything else is set to defult as far as I know. The cards are not overclocked but i am using afterburner for custom fan profiles.

any suggestions appreciated.

Just checking, all three monitors are connected to the first GPU, and the game covers all three screens right? As crossfire or any other multi-GPU setup will not work if the game is not in fullscreen mode.

yes they are all on the first GPU, but even when running a program on just 1 monitor it dosent work when it used to before, and to make matters worse I uninstalled the driver and now i cant re-install it, because the screen just goes black and refuses to progress further.

Sounds like something very wrong has gone wrong if that's the case. Try using driversweeper or something similiar to try clear out any leftover ATi files, and then try to reinstall the drivers. If that doesn't work, then I'm afraid you may have to try a fresh install of Windows.

Yeah I was planning to re-format my SSD when i upgrade to sandy bridge at the end of the month.

Just ran a driver sweeper (getting desperate) and installed the 11.6 drivers without the vison control centre, a quick test in L4D and BC2 shows both cards clocking up to 725MHz as normal now :D just about to install the vison control engine, fingers crossed it wont brake it.

edit: seems installing the vision control centre is causing the problem, was running fine without it and as soon as I install it again my 2nd card becomes useless. Starting to see why people prefer Nvidia drivers now...

I have no idea how you managed that... you need that control panel app to have CrossFire enabled.
