Stupid Cyclist

if a cycle get's in your way whilst driving just give em a little nudge whilst blasting your horn if possable get as close as you can without hitting em they will soon move over as they have almost no protection compaired to your tin can

if your lucky they won't have a helmet cam like that guy did and you won't get a fine or points

if they jump a red light in front of you when u manage to catch up put em in the gutter of better yet force them off the road they have no right to be there any way

but in 5 years time the cost of fuel will be so high that the amount of traffic should decrease as ppl will be struggling to pay the cost of fuel (£3 - £5 a litre) so the roads
will be a lttle safer for lycra lad

sry this was not meant to be taken as a serious post (just a little wind up )

If you did that I'd pull out and stop right in front of you and smack you with my keyboard, or you'd be getting caught and done for attempted murder.

I ride on the left as close to the kerb as I can.

That is what you should not do...

That is what you should not do...

That is exactly what he should do.
That is being courteous, rather than being an arse in the middle.

Do you even have a license/know both sides of the story ?

What I notice is that most people moaning about cyclists barley ever ride one, and most people moaning about cars don't drive one. There's too much moaning from both sides, I mean the OP is implying cyclists should pay road tax, wtf ?

That's the most retarded thing you can do on a bike. A slight wind,a big van going past, the need to move for glass/pothole all make you need to move so if a car is to your right you're ****ed.

I tend to stay out around where a cars offside tyre would be.

Stop confusing this with your rules in Holland. Not to sound like an arse, but I don't think you are in the right place to comment.

The rules in this country are that a cyclist has the right to be in the primary position. You aren't familiar with UK roads, but this means being well away from the kerb and allowing faster road users through where possible if it calls for it. This is what I and many other cyclists already do.

Cycling in the gutter just reinforces to bad drivers that, that is the place where they think Cyclists belong.

Don't go so fast ? Again, cyclists have brakes... Swerving in and out of the side or blocking everyone else just because you want to keep bombing down the road at high speed is not social behavior.

They shouldn't and I don't see the logic in defending this...
It completely defeats the point of decreasing congestion on the roads if cyclists take up as much space as a car.

if you cycle as close to the kerb as you can (in the gutter)
then as nexus has said you are asking for trouble drivers will try to squeeze past cuasing them to take chances with your life without giving proper room

snowdog - get out seriously.. uk has NARROW roads and i mean NARROW.. what the cyclists do by taking the same space as car is PERFECTLY legal here.. you don't have the right to tell us to risk more if WE by LAW can and WILL ride as far from the kerb as it is allowed.

I know I've road a bicycle a hell of a lot more than you to know it is really not the right thing to do cycling in the gutter, it can mean some drivers actually do not give as much space and it's dangerous. I give around 1+ft space between the wheel and the path maybe more sometimes.

I don't need to drive to moan about cars, I know what is right and what is wrong in regards to drivers actions to cyclists, don't know even 1% of the story as far as cycling goes clearly.

I'm not going to be "courteous" and let drivers pass by riding in the gutter destroying my tyres and jamming my bike into countless pot holes and drains then flying off into the path of a car, I'd rather cycle a safe distance that is 1-2ft + away from the path where drivers have more than enough room to overtake on a wide road or when the oncoming traffic lane is clear for overtake.

all riders should arm them selfs with a good air horn (i've had one fitted for the last 20 years) has got me out of a few potentialy sticky situations and the excuse sry didn't see you there m8 (no maybe not but you will hear me )
shouting gets ppls backs up or ringing a little bell just gets ignored
one good blast with that and poor old car driver soon wakes up

I have every right to voice my opinion that the laws regarding cycling are completely bonkers imo. Blocking faster traffic ( I'm not just on about cyclists, also about car drivers not keeping to the right, or left in the UK's case) deliberately is disgusting behavior imo regardless of the place and the laws.

I know I've road a bicycle a hell of a lot more than you
I find that hard to believe, then again I don't know, but I don't see you exploring the whole neighborhood on the bike at 7 or 8, or cycling on your own to primary and secondary school. Did you? I mean, how long have you been a cyclist will ? I got my first bike at 4 or 5 which my parents taught me to ride on immediately after.

Perfect example of bad cyclist attitude. Destroying tyres ? Bicycle tyres are, what, a tenner, and they last ages, at least a year of you drive like a monkey skidding/powersliding/abusing the brakes everywhere. Riding daily I went through a rear tyre once every 2 years, and through a front once every 4 or 5...

The only thing I notice is you say 1-2ft from the side, which is imo a perfectly fine distance, what is not is the arse from the video which in other video's is clearly swerving up to the center of the road or stubbornly blocking a motorbike despite having over 6 feet of space on the left...

At 0.37, what the hell is that **** doing so far right anyhow, why on earth doesn't he move left, but instead shouts at the motorbike like a ****ing selfish monkey.
What the hell is he continuing to do on the right of the bmw when there's a perfect whole lane on the left of him.

Law or no law, UK or Afghanistan, such cyclists should not belong on the road and I hope they give up cycling asap, they give cyclists a bad name.

Destroying tyres is exactly what riding in the gutter does, they don't last 5 mins...

As for bike tyres lasting a year?? No they don't, they only last between 2,000 and 3,000 miles, that's between 2 and 4 months... But I don't like to use tyres until they're truly worn out as puncture protection starts to deteriorate.

I never cycled to primary school because A: it was 2 mins walk away and B: at that age it would be VERY dangerous and stupid to cycle on the roads.
I never cycled to high school because A: the bike would get vandalized and B: at that age it would be quite risky.

I've being cycling for about 11 years but only 4 years proper cycling, I do none stop rides of up to 180 miles and do between 200 and 400 miles per week.

The guy in that video was not exactly a good cyclist but the drivers far outweighed the stupidity of him.

Maybe 1-2ft is riding in the gutter in your country but it's not in the UK the roads are not huge.

I notice how you fail to include this in your post:

"Law or no law, UK or Afghanistan, such drivers should not belong on the road and I hope they give up driving asap, they give drivers a bad name."

You've done more distance yeah in the past 4 years then, but you have at least 4 years less experience cycling than me and didn't do the distance at such a young age.

In what way, he was absolutely bombing it down that road, sure the prius was an arse ( and completely at fault), but I wouldn't expect cyclists to bomb it down the intersection that quickly either, it simply doesn't happen here...

As for the BMW and the motorbike, they are doing nothing wrong. The motorbike is doing a normal overtake but the cyclist is clearly blocking him.

I guess we misunderstood, 1 FT is definitely riding in the gutter, 2 feet is just outside of the gutter imo but still fine. What my issue is cyclists going 3 ft or more from the side.

I do, I replace them when leak or when the canvas shows all around, I'm a cheapskate :p. On my mountain bike I have literally no more thread and the whole tyre is filled with micro cracks, I still refuse to change it though until it goes leak.

It's not years that counts, the experience comes from riding the bike. If I rode my bike for 2 months and rode more than you did in 4 years that'd mean more experience.

Nothing wrong with bombing down the road, if your body can take it then it's fine, it only becomes questionable when the set speed limit is broke... In the center of Manchester down Oxford Road I'm doing up to 30 mph sometimes and it's safe.

In that video, cars jumping red lights and the motorbike was in the wrong. - I don't agree with the way the cyclist approached that junction though then cycled up the back side of the car at that speed.

Replacing them when you do is dangerous, if I was caught on a club run with tyres in that state I'd be told to go away and I reckon some policeman would probably say something, if not they should.

The guy in the vid, is an idiot, there are no two ways about it.. I too can drive at 30mph in a 30 zone 'by law', it doesn't mean I can, or indeed do? If there is traffic or a narrow road, or some other mitigating circumstance, then you go at an appropriately lower speed, because if you dont, you are not only being inconsiderate, you are likely to have an accident.

It's very simple respect, awareness and common sense.

Lycra man in the vids seems to think he is entitled to pelt around either on or near the speed limit, regardless of the road conditions... yeh good luck with that.

I ride a bike for fun on a semi regular basis, and I have no problem keeping left, nobody is suggesting cycles should ride in the gutter, drains are what, a foot wide? A meter from the curb is just silly. Sure take 2 feet in light traffic, drive accordingly. Take more if you are turning right, after hand signaling, and checking your behind to ensure you are not about to commit suicide!

Cars need more room, if a car is passing parked vehicles, it generally means they are crossing the center of the road, and are facing oncoming traffic.. you don't need to do that with a push iron.

Certain people really need to grow up and get with the program. I get cut up all the time in the car, do I whine about it? No, Why bother!? 99% of the time I can see a bad manuver coming a mile off, i react accordingly and have a smug chuckle to myself about it.

If you are the kind of person that lets these things get to you, you will have a miserable time on the roads, regardless of your mode of transport.

.

Not true at all.

If you are capable of holding 30 mph, leave enough distance with vehicles in front of you, and know how to handle a bike in the conditions and give enough braking distance and are away of your surroundings there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.

If it's in a 30mph zone, then it will indeed stop a driver from overtaking, well tough crap because they'd be speeding.....

Snowdog I think you should try cycling through the city centre of a busy British city before telling us what distance from the kerb is safe. I'd wager the general attitude towards cyclists in this country is very different to what you're used to. If you put yourself in the gutter, not only do you have to swerve a lot to avoid obstructions, putting yourself at risk but the number of motorists who will squeeze past without slowing down or leaving you enough space increases dramatically. Cycling in the gutter is VERY dangerous here irrespective of what you may think.

This is coming from someone who does ~5000 miles a year on a bike, half of which is commuting through a city.

Yeah try cycling in a city like Manchester, the roads are horrible here and I ride through the city center nearly every single day. Then go down roads such as "Oxford Road", "Curry Mile", "A6" and the "A34".

I don't see the cyclist in the vid leaving any distance, quite the opposite, he seems to enjoy the company of other vehicles :D

If you read my posts you'll see I don't agree with the way that cyclist was cycling, but the some of the driving in that vid was words than the cyclists actions.
