I have an AMD6950 which I picked up for an ITX PC under my TV.
Previously an old Nvidia card was in there and I had audio over HDMI working fine. The built in VIA audio in my motherboard was enabled but not plugged in or anything. Windows 7 just sort of "worked it out" and used the HDMI audio as the default.
I have swapped in the 6950 and uninstalled the Nvidia driver (and then Display Driver Uninstalled whatever was left over, too).
I install the latest AMD driver. I don't get any audio over HDMI, or occassionally a very glitchy fragment of sound. Not the end of the world, I'll just use the on-board VIA one. I downloaded the drivers for this and it worked just fine without any display drivers installed. But the AMD drivers appear to bork these drivers too! So now I have no sound at all.
I've tried various disabling of the HDMI sound in the Control Panel and not ticking the HDMI audio drivers from AMD when installing teh graphics card drivers but nothing appears to work.
