ALL i want to do is format the floppy disk i have in my drive and it says simply 'cannot format disk'

there is no lock on the disk
used more than one disk
used more than one disk drive

floppy disks are definetly lame!

you ask why do i use it?
ans: i need to install the sata drivers for my motherboard and apprently it gets it from the floppy disk when you press f6 on a windows install.

any other way round this?

Does your windows install disk have SP1 or Sp2 on it already.. If so, you won't need to install the third party drivers from diskette.

If not, are there any lights on the floppy disk? Is it on all the time?

No worries.. I meant to say are the lights ON all the time on the floppy drive..

They usually work fine for me, but i've made silly mistakes before to.....

In my own experience its usually one of the following when the drive doesnt work.

1) Cable is the wrong way round
2) The disk is knackered
3) The drive is knackered
4) Floppy drive has been disabled in the bios
5) Forgot to plug the power cable in, or its not quite connected properly
