well, trying to save some money on buying rocks for my garden, are there any legality issues from taking rocks from the beach?
that is all, thanks :)

I'm sure it's illegal isn't it? You can't just pull up to the beach with a trailer and take a load of rocks away :p

Yep I'm positive its illegal. Whatever its not very good for the beach and removing larger stones will accelerate errosion

I know it's illegal to take rocks from Snowdon (although my mum did so, I now have an excellent paperweight on my desk at work ;)).. probably the same for beaches too..

I don't think taking a few is illigal. I'm sure it'll only be illigal if you take enough to be detremental to the beach. Millions is spent every year on beach nourishment.

The smaller rocks are a cause of attrition, so strictly speaking, you're doing the beach a favour by taking a few :p

Illegal or not, I don't think you'll get in trouble for taking a few rocks. As long as you don't fill your car up with them you'll be fine.

What about driftwood?

I only ask because I found a bit of driftwood that has what appears to be the face of Che Geuvara on it, I took it home to sell on ebay but I don't want to break the law.

Slightly reminds me of a quote:

Richard P. Feynman said:
“The theoretical broadening which comes from having many humanities subjects on the campus is offset by the general dopiness of the people who study these things...”

Thanks for that, next time can you keep it to yourself?

Come on mate, you know its a joke. It comes with all walks of uni life. In my department we called the mech engineers, they called the civil and every one took the urine out of the manufacturing students. But then we were all friends and worked well with each other.

Technically its illegal.

However I doubt someone will question it if you only take a few rocks.

If of course you are offloading a small digger onto the beach with a mate in a pick up then someone may question it.

Christ just take a few rocks if you want, they're not going to launch a full post mortem investigation and get the helicopter...
